'It wasn't that Hobie didn't love Miles; it was just that his idea of love (or rather the definition he'd determined by the sickly sweet representation provided by society) no where near resembled the twisting, aching feeling that gripped his heart whenever he looked Miles' way. He was accustomed to feeling a little poorly when one of his friends were facing a potential threat to their life, but not the absolutely nauseating feeling he got in the pit of his gut whenever Miles was in imminent danger. Even in their happier moments, his heart was sore with adoration, leaping into his throat whenever his mind recalled everything they'd gone through just to reach this point.'

He's smiling with his full face just like he was two days ago when the entire Spider Society cheered his name, or Gwen and Pav screamed extemporary lyrics to a tune he'd made, or when he met Hobie's eyes after the fact and his smile softened because he doesn't have to pretend so much with this one, not the one who stuck by him in his darkest hour when it would've been so much easier to just conform to the resignation of the nihilist fate of all Spider-People. No, Hobie stuck by him. Yes, Miles' smile is something special. No one else's eyes sparkle like Miles Morales' when he's saving the multiverse in the ever-so-casual way he does. There's a spark in that one, Hobie knows.'
