"You're right, I do always say that." David agreed. "But this time, I mean it."

Max still has his head cocked though, clearly wanting to hear more, and Magnus continues, fond smile dimming in echoed sadness. “They were in mourning,” he says softly. Max flinches against him and Magnus looks down in concern.
“F-For who?” Max whispers, throat choked.
“The Head’s son,” Magnus answers, tugging Max up and into his hold as he notices tears streaming down Max’s cheeks.
“Oh, my little darling,” Magnus whispers, holding his blueberry against him. “You never have to worry about the nephilim- not here at Holly House, I promise you that.” Max’s shudders only increase and Magnus begins to gently rub his back, fury erupting in his chest at whatever the Shadowhunters had done to cause this reaction in the child of his heart.
Or, Max is an eight-year-old warlock, Magnus runs an orphanage/school for warlock children, and Max misses his dad.
