Summary
“And you just happened to have a cowboy outfit lying around” Hen squints with suspicion.
“I did”
“Hmmm”
“You know what they say” Buck says, as a blush takes over his face momentarily, and then, sort of shying away he goes on “Save a horse, ride a cowboy. Had a couple girlfriends that were into that”
Eddie’s brain stops functioning.

Summary
He hears a snort, then a few more. And then there is the tell-tale sound of hooves scraping the ground. Then, worst of all, a stomp.
Eddie draws his horse up short and he sees Buck do the same. He shoots a nervous look at him. You ride on the range long enough and you’ll know what an aggressive cow sounds like. And you’ll hope never to hear those sounds from an entire herd.

Summary
Buck calls out from his room. His voice raised just enough to carry over the low thrum of music vibrating through the walls of his apartment.
“Tommy, can you come here?”He pauses, hoping Tommy hears him over the playlist that’s been playing in the background for hours. He’s been cleaning—sorting through old clothes, junk drawers, and random knickknacks he hasn’t thought about in years. The goal was to declutter—make room for the stuff that matters—and make it easier for when he moves out of the apartment. But somewhere in the depths of his closet, Buck stumbles across something that makes him freeze—his old cowboy hat, its white color, is almost unrecognizable under the dirt embedded into it. The leather is worn soft from use and years in storage, but it still molds to his head perfectly when he sets it on as if it’s been waiting for this moment.

Summary
Eddie couldn't help but smile at the sight. Buck had always been a source of light in his life, a steady presence that never wavered. Even now, as they were making the long drive from Los Angeles to El Paso to bring Christopher back home, Buck had a way of making everything feel a little easier, a little less heavy.
But as they got closer to El Paso, Eddie could feel the weight of his past pressing down on him. Memories he had long buried began to resurface, each one tinged with the shadow of his Catholic upbringing and the guilt that had followed him all his life. The closer they got to his childhood home, the more those memories clawed their way to the surface.

Summary
Pilot Thomas "Tommy" Kinard hasn't been a ranch hand for seven years. However, a chance meeting with his old coworkers and some new cowboys, especially a certain Evan "Buck" Buckley, seems to be changing his life for the better.
EXCERPT:
“Evan!”
Tommy.
Turned his gaze back to the dirty blonde. And Tommy would say the man was a little sheepish, but it seemed as if something else overcame him once Tommy was looking straight at him again.
Excitement?
Nervousness?
Awe?
No.
Couldn’t be any of those. Tommy wasn’t the kind of guy who inspired that.
“Evan Buckley,” breathed Evan.
And.
And Tommy forgot that he should be shaking his hand too, right? Not that – not that Evan was offering.
But.
Tommy took the initiative, extending his own.
“Wow. Uh. Big hands,” said Evan, maybe babbled, as he shook Tommy’s hand and looked so expectantly at Tommy.
Tommy couldn’t say no to that face. He couldn’t say nothing.
“You have a good handshake too, Evan,” offered Tommy, a little distracted by Evan’s adorable smile.
The little laugh he was making.
Wait.
Were they still shaking hands?
Was that weird?

Summary
“Um, why have I never seen you in this?” Buck’s words are muffled from where he’s bent over and half lost in the back of Eddie’s closet. Well actually, it’s now technically their shared closet. That’s the reason for this clean-out after all.
When he pulls back, he’s holding a brown suede cowboy hat. It’s soft and worn, something abuelo had gotten him in high school when he’d taken him to his first rodeo. Those are some of his fondest memories of his grandfather. He hasn’t seen the hat in years—probably since the move to LA. There’s never been an occasion to break it out here, so it’d gotten lost in the depths of his closet.

Summary
"What’s got him smiling like that?" Hen asks, side-eying Buck’s happy posture as he walks around behind the bar cleaning glasses.
Chimney lets her pass, not even trying to make it seem like he wants to help her move the crates from her cart into the back room.
"Ah," Chimney says, deliberately unhelpful, "we got news that the original cowboy is coming back today."
Buck grimaces. "I don’t get why you call him that. It makes no sense. Why is he of all people the original cowboy? He’s not even the oldest one in town."
"Oh, it’s easy," a grin splits Chimney’s face, "it’s because you are the knockoff cowboy of his original."
Buck sputters. "That’s- that’s not what I’m trying to do here."

Right there, Philip and Margaret Buckley manage their ranch with the help of their son Evan Buckley, and they are the most influential family in town. In a town where everyone knows everyone, the new stranger surely doesn’t go unnoticed.
