Summary
“Oh, no, sweet boy, I meant you sound very sick,” Marcy corrects gently. “Here, let’s all get inside and I’ll make some tea.” She turns and hurries back into the house, heading straight for the kitchen.
Clint, Patrick, and David follow Marcy into the kitchen. Clint goes to retrieve some mugs while Patrick leads David over to the table, pulling out a chair and helping him sit down.
“Can I get you anything else, baby?” Patrick asks, pressing a kiss to the top of his husband’s hair.
David shakes his head and gives Patrick a weak smile.
“He’s in good hands, son,” Clint smiles, setting four mugs down on the counter beside the stove for Marcy to put the tea in. “You know better than to underestimate your mother’s ability to care for someone when they’re sick,” he teases, ruffling Patrick’s hair. “I’ll help you get your bags.” He walks out of the kitchen in the direction of the front door.
“Yeah, yeah, I know. Let Marcy Brewer work her magic,” Patrick smiles.

Summary
“So.”
“So,” David echoes, not looking up from the paper, thoroughly engrossed in an article titled What Kenzo Left Behind. Patrick knows enough now to recognize “Kenzo” as the name of a fashion designer; five years practice removing designer clothing is finally rubbing off on him.
“So I ordered 40,000 bees yesterday.”
David’s entire upper body straightens at once, mouth set in a firm line echoing the sudden stiffness of his spine, brow impossibly flat. Admittedly, Patrick broke the news in this manner precisely to experience this full and honest reaction.
“What.”
“Honeybees. I ordered two packages.”
David blinks.
“What.”

Summary
Marcy was trying to pick her words carefully. “Mothers just… want to know things. I see you two together, and I’m so glad that you have this wonderful thing, but I don’t know how you got… here.”
“We know you got into business together, you told us all about the store when we had breakfast after your birthday. And we love those updates, of course. But I think what your mother is saying… is she wants the scoop.” Clint turned to Marcy, his eyebrow quirked as he checked to see if his appraisal was correct.
She nodded. “I do. I want all the details.”

Summary
The practice of taking someone else’s name hadn’t even seemed odd until Twyla asked who was changing their name after the wedding, him or David, as she dropped his tea on the counter weeks ago. Patrick had blinked at her and realized he didn’t have an answer. No one had ever asked before. Everyone had always known Rachel was going to become Rachel Brewer. She’d doodled it on half a dozen notebooks in high school.
But with David, well, Patrick hadn’t even thought about it. Now he couldn’t stop.
