Iida snarled at Kururoi, who flinched back and partly hid behind Kendo. “Not pack,” Iida said, though his words were somewhat slurred by the presence of his fangs. “Not. Pack.”
Hitoshi squirmed in Iida’s hold, but it wasn’t painful. “Tenya,” he said softly, pliant in a way that would please the feral teens’ baser instincts and allowed his scent to roam. “Ten-chan – we’re okay. They’re not pack,” he agreed, because, well, they weren’t, “but they’re allies. Pack, uh – pack-affiliated.”
Iida stilled, grip around Hitoshi tightening slightly. “Not pack,” Iida repeated, though some of the initial hostility started to fade.
Hitoshi eyed the two other students. “Uh – I don’t know how 2-B communicates, but could you try and see if one of them could get some of our pack here?” Preferably before Tenya goes on a rampage was left unsaid, but he supposed was quite obvious considering Tenya’s deep red eyes and hypervigilance and overall feral . . . ness.
Just when Hitoshi’s optimism rose for the rest of the afternoon, everything had to go to utter hell.

Sugimoto opens up a pocket at the top of his briefcase. In it, are two clear plastic bags, clearly marked and labeled in red and black ink. Evidence bags.
Sugimoto pulls them out and what little breath Shouta still has is forced from his lungs.
One of the bags holds a familiar red sneaker, scuffed at the edges with the dirt and grime of the walking trails around UA. A dark scrape runs along the side where its owner has a habit of rubbing it along the legs of his desk when he thinks too much. The other holds a pair of metal-rimmed glasses. The lenses are cracked along the side, but Shouta can still make out the typewriter straight kanji across the frame that bear its owner’s name.

Before long, Iida had caught up to them. Just in time to watch the two students drop the couch at the base of a large tree with branches that reached out over a small clearing of tall grasses and autumn flowers.
Iida’s jaw dropped. He couldn’t say for sure if he was impressed or aghast.
The tree’s boughs were covered in wooden boards and linked together with thick pieces of rope. Reconstructed furniture and pillaged construction matter left over from training at Ground Gamma formed questionable walkways through the branches. Twigs and dry plant matter hung down like curtains, woven together with a surprising amount of meticulous effort, and yet more recycled wood was slowly being made into walls. All this to form what could only be the biggest safety hazard he’d ever seen localized in a single tree.
