Eddie is struggling with Christopher gone. His son is still ignoring him, and no matter what everyone tells him, he can't help but think that he's a terrible parent. On top of that, he's trying to handle the horrible feeling he gets when he sees his best friend with other men and struggling to tell himself that it's anything other than homophobia.
But Buck's sudden hiding of his phone whenever Eddie is in sight has him riled up in ways that threaten to destroy his relationship with the one person he can still rely on without fail. Summary
Physically, Buck was ready to accept a baby into his home. Mentally? He wasn’t sure. He knew he wanted this, wanted her. He had always wanted a baby, a family, but now it was actually happening, the legal documents signed, sealed, delivered, he worried that he wasn’t up to it.
Panic raised as a lump in his throat, but as if he could read his thoughts, Eddie placed a hand on his leg. “This is good Buck, it's great!” it was such a simple sentence, but Eddie’s sureness was enough to dampen the panic, their eyes met and Buck grinned at him in response.
“You think so?” he couldn’t help but ask.
“You found her, isn’t that like a sign from the universe?” Eddie knocked their knees together.
“You don’t believe in signs from the universe.” Buck shot back.
“You do,” Eddie said softly, his gaze unwavering, “and I believe in you.”
Or
Buck finds a baby, Eddie finds himself.

Summary
“Buck—”
Buck’s voice rose, teetering on the edge of desperation. “And now, you’re just gone? Chris mentions chess club, and it’s all, ‘oh, I guess I have to uproot my entire life and move back to El Paso’? I mean, what’s that about—”
“Careful,” Eddie warned, and Buck scoffed.
“I’m sorry, but seriously? That’s all it takes? What about the 118? What about—”
“You?”
Buck stopped short, breath halting as if Eddie had stuck a knife between his ribs. Instantly, Eddie wanted to take it back—it was too revealing, too close to this thing that neither one of them could touch.—
or, Post 8x08, Buck and Eddie deal poorly with their feelings, and Buck gets shot. Not necessarily in that order.

AU - Detectives
George Kirk had every single thing he wanted only for Nero to take away the thing most precious to him. Over two thousand miles seemed long enough to start all over again. Christopher thought he had moved on from being naive and stupid. How was he supposed to know that Nero was far from done with him?
Sometimes different people cross paths multiple times in their life. And sometimes they'd wish they would never have noticed it. No one can say when it all started and when their story ceased to exist.
After all, the Gordian Knot has neither a beginning nor an end. -

"Do you think that would ever work?"
Buck takes his eyes off the screen and looks at Eddie. "What?"
"That. With a friend."
Eddie means a meaningful relationship—love and sex, joy and laughter and happiness, and just everything Eddie has always tried to build with the wrong people—with the wrong gender. When he allows himself to think about it, Eddie likes to imagine it's what he and Buck could have together.
"Yeah, I dunno.” Buck shrugs and takes a swig of his beer. “A few bounces on it never hurt a friendship.” -

"When he had been seeing Dr. Copeland, he learned so much about himself and about the habits and behaviors he fell back on when things got hard. That didn’t go away after he stopped seeing her, it just meant that he was even more aware of what he was doing. And somehow that made it a little bit worse. Because maybe he should know better. And maybe that meant he was doing it on purpose. "

First Maddie left, then Chimney and Jee, and Buck had managed to keep things together. And then Eddie left the 118 and Buck felt like his world was crumbling around him.

“Just, let me know if anything is too much? We can always leave. Or grab some of the stuff and bring it back to ours,” Eddie says. “Or, anything you don’t like we can throw off Buck’s balcony?”
Chris rolls his eyes and puts his phone down. “Alright, Dad. I don’t think we have to worry about throwing anything off the side of the building though. Unless the Christmas tree looks like that,” he says, pointing to the large Charlie Brown-esqe tree strapped to the roof of the car in front of them.
“I think me and Buck picked out a better one than that,” Eddie laughs. “Plus, I wouldn’t want to ruin anyone’s holiday by dropping a Christmas tree on them.”
Or: Eddie almost dies on Christmas day
