Even the thick black smoke from the factories, which gives him a constant cough, or the fact that he shares an attic with five other people, doesn't bother him as much as the falsity shown by the people.
When Porco gives an annoyed grunt to every lady, or gentleman, or child who his eyes meet, everyone believes it is because, unlike them, he doesn't have many reasons to smile. The unspoken truth is that he can't stand people who flaunt non-existent happiness. -

The antitheses of peace, quiet, and boredom was found in a bundle of soot, charcoal, and curses that rolled down his chimney and into his room one evening.
