"Sam!" Sam heard Dean call, and before he could even think of trying to get his bearings, Dean was in Sam's bedroom. "Sammy, are you okay? Are you hur-" Dean stopped, a flicker of fear, anger, hatred and betrayal flashing across his face.
"Dean? Wha-" And then Sam saw it. In a particularly large shard of mirror, his reflection stared back at him. But it wasn't his. Looking back at him were his expression, hair, and clothes, but someone else's eyes. Instead of Sam's greenish kaleidoscopic eyes, yellow ones looked back at him.
"You addict bitch." Dean snarled. "You just couldn't help yourself, could you!"
"Wh-What?" Sam stammered out.

Summary
Dean Winchester is heading back to Hogwarts for his final year. He's the newly assigned Head Boy, alongside his best friends Charlie, Cas, and Benny. This ought to be the best year of their lives as they go through the final stages of school together.
So why does it feel like the beginning of the end? Why does it feel like Dean's best friend, Castiel, has started making all the wrong choices? Why does it feel like Castiel has completely changed?
Dark times are ahead. Dean can feel it. He can only hope that by the end of the year he hasn't lost everyone he's cared about - most importantly, Cas. He hopes he will never lose Cas.

Sam burns red when the lady at the front desk informs them that most of the enrollment process has been digitized. Castiel stays silent behind him, like a young school child instead of being older than the concept of time. His knees creak and he feels old.

Originally posted on Fanfiction.net 6/24/2021 SPN100 Challenge and Dabbles Every Weekend on LiveJournal Challenge Fic. Quadruple and a half drabble. If that's even allowed because funny things kept popping in my head. DEW character and theme were Cas and purple, and wow was prime. 447 words. Newly human Cas makes a mistake with the laundry and discovers a major gap in his knowledge. Dean finds the whole thing hysterical.

Their final moments are upon them. They’ve played their final card and Chuck is announcing curtain call. But Dean still has a few seconds left. A few seconds to right the only wrong he’s ever truly regretted.
So Dean will do the only thing he can do. His one final move in the famous final scene of Chuck’s shitty story. Something that Chuck believed completely unfathomable. Something, that, throughout all the universes, he’d never seen – not once.
Dean is about to answer a question that Cass should have never even needed to ask.
And maybe – maybe – one last ditch effort in a world gone mad is enough to turn the tides just enough so they might hear what ‘the exultant sound of a canon booming in the night’ really means.

“I’d like to welcome you all here today to mourn the passing of a good friend.” His voice is solemn, the slight waver indicates that something is actually wrong – that Dean isn’t just playing a prank on them.
“He’s stuck with me for years.” Dean exhales. Castiel glances at Sam to see if he has any inkling of what is happening.
Why would Dean call them here? Today? To stand near a shallow grave?The set-up is a funeral. Not a hunter’s funeral but a more traditional one. But, the thing is, there’s no body to be seen. And in Castiel’s knowledge, for a funeral, you need a corpse.
Sam raises his hand half-way.
“What?” Dean seems annoyed.
“Are you talking about Cass?”
“No. Sam!” Dean rolls his eyes. “How can we have a funeral for Cass if he’s standing right there.”
"What I'm trying to say is that I love you Cass"
Castiel takes a step forward, wanting to pull Dean close – to hug him or to taste his lips, for the very first time – when he feels the tugging on his grace.
In his confusion, he stumbles, falling directly into the grave that Dean dug.

At his side, Cass bristles. “My deal is when I’m happy he will take me.”
“Dean.” He begins. “The things that can make me happy are numbered. When the Shadow peered inside my mind, it saw everything. My feelings of inadequacy and uselessness, my greatest fears, my enemies… the people I love.”
“I’m not saying you made the wrong call Cass.” He says gently. “Just - why didn’t you tell us?”
“What would that have done?”
“Something.” Dean insists. “We'd have gone face to face with that monster!”
“There it is.” Cass says softly. “What good would that have done? The thing that could make me happy… facing off against the being who wishes to take it all away?”
That gives Dean pause. “Me and Sam… we make you happy?”
“Yes.” Cass says carefully. “Being with you and Sam brings me great joy.”
“Dean.” Cass says sternly, catching his attention. “Once I thought that you knew. You are a connoisseur in matters such as this. Now, that we're in a place that is all our own, I think you’re ready to hear this.”
Dean’s been ready for the past hour, but okay.
“You make me unbelievably happy Dean.”

The prayer flows off his lips easily, the emotion itself is familiar; the words, not so much.
Countless times, those words had been on the tip of his tongue. But something always held them back.

Dean fists his hand together to stop them from shaking. “You don’t have to do this.” He assures.
“But I want to.” Cass admits. “You don’t know how much I want this Dean. You.” Cass’ voice is wrecked, his expression pained as though the conversation is physically killing him.
“Then what’s wrong.”
Blue eyes flash to his, filled with tears, regret and love. “The Shadow.”
