Il tournait lentement sa tête vers l’origine de cette perturbation et il se retenait de justesse de jurer. À peine plus gros qu’un cochon d'Inde, la fourrure dressée comme s’il avait été électrocuté, un drôle d'animal doré était, la tête plongée dans le sac de friandise. Un autre plus pâle, le fixait avec méfiance et certainement une pointe d’agressivité. Ou bien peut-être que c'était dû à sa fourrure dressée comme les piquants d’un hérisson. Ce dernier émit un bruit presque grave qui fit sortir son semblable du paquet de bonbons avec empressement. -

As she settled back in, body fitting right between Wolfwood’s thighs, Vash let her weight rest more easily on her forearms. She chased the warm breath on Wolfwood’s lips and licked between them to find real heat.
Night was rarely a calm and silent thing. It was more alive than the daytime, sometimes. All the creatures who hid away from oppressive heat and humidity during southern summers would come out. Scurrying, hunting, seeking, finding. That was what they were doing, too. Lips locking and unlocking, scooping onto warm throat, with a pulse beating quick beneath them. If either of them were prey, it’d be Wolfwood right now. Right underneath Vash, right where she wanted her.
Their bodies were too hot to not melt into each other.

Vash catches up to him on the stairs without a word. Wolfwood ignores him until he’s able to get his door open—at which point he spares a glance, tries not to stare for too long, ignores how the roof of his mouth dries out when he meets Vash’s bright green eyes.
Wolfwood has never been able to suss him out, Vash. Do Plants even present in the same way? Not that it would matter—Wolfwood would never, not with Vash—but still… The thought crosses his mind.
“Don’t cause any trouble,” Wolfwood croaks.
“I’ll try,” Vash returns, “but Wolfwood—”
“See you in a week, Tongari.” Wolfwood pushes his cross in first, then throws himself after, slamming the door shut with perhaps more force than necessary. His fingers slide over the lock while he secures it, and then the dead bolt. Just can’t be too careful.
Tragically, he can still smell Vash outside the door. This fresh, slightly salty scent—woodsy and natural, something Wolfwood’s never smelled before.

He met the vampire on a Sunday. He stood out, a vivid splash of red and gold brocade against the washed out browns and grays of the city of Octovern in the fall. Nicholas stood on the steps of the Church, a bronze dish meant for alms balanced precariously at the foot of the stone visage of Mary, Mother of God, next to him. Ostensibly, he was meant to be collecting alms from late arrivals. In reality, Nicholas had never been allowed in the Church during one of Master Chapel’s sermons. The old priest had always told Nicholas a creature such as he was far too stupid and far too unnatural to hear the Good Word meant for the faithful congregants.
There were hunters and exorcists inside the Church. This was hardly the place for a vampire.
Nicholas knew many of the hunters of the Eye of Michael that would be sitting in the pews of the building behind him, heads bowed in supplication to their almighty God. They were the type to kill a vampire on sight and worry about making sure he actually had human lifeblood on his fangs later.
Nicholas needed to get him out of here.
