Summary
The Telmarines have ruled Narnia for more than three centuries and its last original inhabitants must hide in the woods to survive. Miraz wants to murder the prince, who tries escaping to the wilderness. Flori, a young Telmarine soldier, pursues Caspian and accidentally meets the Pevensie siblings, returning to save their old kingdom.
Peter, haunted by his adult life memories and the view of the destroyed Cair Paravel plans to drive the invaders out of Narnia. Enara, the daughter of a noble lord and Flori's best friend, intends to resist him and secure the future for her people by destroying the Old-Narnian threat together with the Pevensies. However, the danger could lurk far closer to her home than she realizes.
Meanwhile, Caspian suffers from depression and bonds with Susan. They are trying to stop a full scale war, but at the same time, are willing to do anything possible to finish off Miraz. And on top of that, Edmund and his supposed Telmarine enemy Alysa are captured by the Calormen slavers during a fight, forced to face the consequences together.
And while the two sides are destroying each other, who knows what other enemies of Narnia may take advantage of the chaos. Will there be any hope left?

“It must have been incredible,” Caspian says, tearing his eyes from the horizon to glance over at Peter, who still watches the tide come in below the crumbled edge of the terrace. “Your Narnia.”
“It was,” replies Peter, one nail tracing the grooves of the lion-pommel’s mane. He sounds wistful and melancholic and mournful all at once. “Trumpkin told us they’re calling it the Golden Age now, when we ruled. But back then it was just Narnia. I wish— well. I suppose I wish you could have seen it. I think you would have liked it.”
And Caspian, watching the sunlight dapple Peter Pevensie’s cheekbones, the sea breeze ruffling his hair—Caspian, gazing at a King who stepped right out of the stories his professor used to tell him, out of the Golden Age of Narnia itself; High King Peter the Magnificent, who came when Caspian called—thinks that what he’s seeing right now is more than enough.
(or, the kings and queens of old are not quite what caspian expected, high king peter most of all. apparently the feeling is mutual.)

In which Trumpkin finds something other than four English school children in the ruins of Cair Paravel, the Pevensies mourn for what has been lost, and Caspian tries to not become a younger shadow of his uncle.
