An intensely canon-compliant account of Voldemort’s POV of his life from 1968-1981 and 1994-1998, with inserts of many of his younger years.
The Voldemort we see in words—from Dumbledore, from Harry—is not the Voldemort we see in actions.
How do we bridge the gap between the Voldemort that Dumbledore claims has no idea what friendship is and the Voldemort that calls his Death Eaters his family when they’re not even present? gives Bella a piece of his soul? drags her by hand out of the Ministry? is clearly liked as a person at least somewhat by his followers? has at least one person willing to physically care for him for nearly a year? has multiple people willing to go to Azkaban for life for the chance to have him back?
Voldemort is not the person Dumbledore thinks (or claims to think, so that Harry will kill himself) he is at all, but is a human being with human emotions and human thoughts and human relationships, however unique. I tried to answer all the questions that the canon series leaves about Voldemort, filling his gaps and providing explanations and context and making him make sense.
Rodolphus is gay, because I never see that possibility get explored.

Tom Riddle was not easy to scare. Since he was 5 years old, he hasn't felt afraid, since that night he made peace with the thunder that imposed its presence on the roof of the orphanage and learned to hear the rumbles that lived in the dark night sky as if it were a lullaby. Tom lived unafraid.
But even though Tom is not scared by the sounds and screams of thunder, he is afraid of being touched by the deadly branch called lightning. And for the light it made in the black night, as if it were more powerful than the dark immensity that Tom learned to appreciate.
Tom mets light personified, so sweet and gentle, so naive and dear, like starlight on a bright night. Little does he know that who he knows is the lightning in person, who orders and who serves with stubbornness and power. And little does he know that he is the night. So so dark.

Tom Marvolo Riddle ist ungefähr im Jahr 2003 oder so geboren und wurde über einen anonyme Geburt im Wool's Orphanage abgegeben. Bloß der Vorname seines Erzeugers und seines Großvaters sind ihm bekannt. Mit den anderen Kindern des Waisenhauses und seinen Mitschülern versteht er sich nicht sonderlich gut, da diese ihn als Weirdo abstempeln. Bloß Amy Benson, ihre jüngere Halbschwester Clarissa und sein Klassenkamerad Dennis Bishop bewundern ihn für seine Andersartigkeit. Doch dann wird er von Amy verraten und Dennis schlägt sich auf ihre Seite. Auf einem Trip ans Meer plant Tom grausame Rache. Danach ist er alleine, bis er auf einmal einen Besucher empfängt, der ihn auf eine mysteriöse magische Schule einlädt, auf der er nach einigen Jahren Myrtle Elizabeth Warren begegnet, die er als Knecht braucht. Allerdings begegnet er Amy nach einigen Jahren wieder und braucht sie ebenfalls als Knecht. Zum Ende hin stellt sich die Frage, welche der beiden er lieber mag.
