Summary
One year ago, Bernadette Thompson was saved from death by a hero who wasn't human. She's mentioned him to exactly one person since--the reporter whose crazed babbling about her childhood pets, vigilantes, and talking, karate-chopping turtles got her fired. Bernadette knows there's almost no chance she'll ever lay eyes on "Donnie" again. But then again, the chances that talking, karate-chopping turtle heroes actually exist aren't very high either...
This is a follow-up to Slipstream's "The Why of Things: (Turtles All the Way Down Remix). I read it several times and felt like it needed a sequel.

Buried alive after a subway station collapse, Bernadette Thompson wishes she hadn’t erased that conversation with April O’Neil from her mind. Lucky for her Donatello spent all that time in the Hashi learning not to break.

Summary
April writes an article linking Sacks to the Foot clan to the robot samurai who fell from the sky. It gets picked up, and up, and up - Sacks is gone before the cops get to the building, Shredder escapes from custody before the arraignment, a picture of Shredder in his crater goes viral (I DON’T ALWAYS WEAR MY SAMURAI ROBOT SUIT, the caption goes, BUT WHEN I DO IT MAKES AN IMPACT), Jon Stewart makes a couple of jokes about corruption in in NYPD and problems with privately funding public services that cites her article. The whole thing swamps the news cycle for days.
