    Set in an alternate universe where COVID never happened and the 2020 season ran as expected, Romain Bardet goes into the Tour de France expecting yet another disappointing disaster of a race. He knows he'll never be good enough to beat Ineos, and that AG2R will never agree to let him structure his season differently.

    Nothing goes according to plan.

    (Disclaimer: Absolutely nothing in this story actually happened, and should not be taken as a reflection on all of these very real people. Mostly written in 2019, so anything which I have successfully predicted about the real 2020 Tour is just a coincidence.)
