Бильбо Бэггинс из Бэг-Энда был не слишком уважаемым хоббитом. Ни у одного уважаемого хоббита в доме не висели меч и арбалет, и в семье у него не было гномов. Но Бильбо Бэггинс был именно таким и весь Шир знал о его муже, кузнеце Торине Дубощите.
Однажды, когда Бильбо возвращается домой, он узнает о походе, нацеленном на возвращение Эребора. Бильбо знает, что гномы - упрямые существа, и нет никого упрямее Торина. Но никто не говорил, что сам Бильбо был не менее упрям, чем его любимый муж.
Когда Бильбо возвращается домой и находит своего мужа там раньше, чем ожидалось, он узнает о походе, нацеленном на возвращение Эребора. Это смертельная миссия. Бильбо знает, что гномы - упрямые существа, и нет никого упрямее Торина. Но никто не говорил, что сам Бильбо был не менее упрям, чем его любимый муж.
Поэтому он последует за своим самым дорогим гномом через всё Средиземье, через равнины, горы и леса, скрывая при этом истинную природу их отношений (политика гномов еще никому не помогала), залечивая старые раны (и нанося новые) и узнавая что-то новое о гноме, которого Бильбо называет своим мужем (и о его большой семье).
В конце концов, никто никогда не говорил, что любовь - это легко.

He always had meant to make it to the mountain one last time, and now he has all the time in the world.

Bella Baggins is hired to be the burglar for the Company of Thorin Oakenshield. Only, she doesn't know this; nobody bothered to tell her she was supposed to be hosting thirteen dwarves and a wizard for dinner, to explain exactly what her duties as burglar entails.
That would've been nice to know beforehand, thank you very much.
She's off on an adventure, to heal the land far to the East and over ranges and rivers that keeps calling out to her.
Without the dwarves.
Because nobody bothered to tell her anything.
Erebor may have been calling out for help, but she won't know what hit her.

Long before she sang in harmony with her brethren, Varda saw into the heart of Melkor and saw not light but darkness. Her discovery lingered in her mind as she toiled to ready the lands for the coming of the elves and men. Her worry grew until she could no longer keep her peace. In secret, she went before Eru and begged him for another race, one who she could look after. One who could wield her powers and help her fight the coming darkness.
Eru granted this wish but reminded her that light was not all that she was. Varda bowed her head to her Lord of Lords and swore to bless her children equally with her powers.
