It isn't long after that Spoiler and Black Swan hit the streets. They catch the attention of both Tim Drake and Batman. Batman's attempt to help winds both of Steph's parents in jail and both girls being fostered by him.
Cass is walking a knife's edge balancing act, trying to keep her secret from the Batman while living with him. After all, everyone knows metas aren't welcome in Gotham.

Batman has potentially the most famous rogue's galleries in comics- Joker, Riddler, Two-Face, and so many others... but this story isn't about Batman and his villains- this story is about loveable underdog, Stephanie Brown (don't fact check the loveable part, just trust me) and between her Spoiler days, brief stint as Robin, and her (so far) shockingly successful time as Batgirl, she's developed her own reoccurring villains! Such as gravity, an awkward relationship with the Wayne family, and of course- the consequences of her own actions!
How long can our heroine completely ignore her past and any lasting impacts it may have left on her mental health? If you ask her, she'd say forever! (She's an optimist now.)

Batman is dead, the others missing, the Batcave completely trashed. No one is protecting Gotham beyond a demonic little brat dressed as Robin and a crime boss stealing Joker's old schtick. There's a Batman-shaped hole in Gotham, with only one gal left with the measurements to fill it. Who? That'd be a Spoiler.
