Picking up soon after the events of the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and before Wakanda Forever, this story explores the bonds of friendship, the aftermath of betrayal, and includes a lively mix of banter, action, angst, and globe-trotting adventure, as well as a deep-dive into just what happened during Bucky's two years in Wakanda.
When news of a series of high-profile murders sparks international interest, Bucky and Sam find themselves undercover to investigate a lead that could place it as the work of an unknown assailant who might be a part of the “Big Four.”
While Bucky would prefer to believe that his time as the Winter Soldier is long behind him, strange dreams and the shadows of missing memories prompt him to realize that their elusive secrets may be the only thing standing between them and another HYDRA operation of unknown ends.
But to move forward, Bucky will need to navigate the complex question of where the Winter Soldier ends and the White Wolf begins…

Sam était mortellement sérieux et Bucky oublia immédiatement toute sa colère.***
Après la conclusion de "On se reverra...", Steve et Bucky vivent heureux au Wakanda, enfin réunis. Mais leur paix n'était pas faite pour durer éternellement et, un jour, Bucky est appelé pour sa première mission aux côtés de Sam.

“Yeah, sorry, I just heard something.” A whimper? A baby crying? There it was again, a soft and agonizingly pleading little sound that sounded hurt and scared.
“Shit, it’s the aliens,” said Sam. “Buck, be careful—“
“You literally just said there was no alien invasion situation,” said Bucky absently, turning slowly until he could pinpoint the sound better.
There. A cat—or more accurately, a kitten.
Bucky finds a cat that might be more than it seems. Sam and Bucky find a home together, and that might be more than it seems too.

When Bucky gets a letter from Zemo, asking for a favor in the wake of Oeznik's death, he ends up doing a favor for T'Challa and Ayo instead. Bucky may not know what true justice is for any of their losses, but he's willing to at least try dragging Zemo towards it.

“This is all really easy for you, isn’t it? All that serum runnin’ through your veins.” Walker shifts his stance, leans against the wall at a slightly different angle in a pose that would be casual if not for the disdain written all over his face.
In a different timeline, Bucky reacts. He tells Walker to shove it, holds him back, and gives Sam the time he was promised. Maybe Sam gets through to her, maybe he doesn’t, but they’re able to finish their talk and walk away before Walker even hits the stairs. Sam shakes his head and then Walker loses his mind and Hoskins puts a hand on his arm to calm him down. Everyone walks away disappointed.
In a different timeline, what happens next doesn’t happen at all.
