Alhaitham closed his book and looked at the two once more. Inside that house, they lived in their own little world. The girl looked at her mother as if she were the sun, the only guiding light she would ever need.
Alhaitham wondered how fate could be so cruel.
“Soon, that girl will be an orphan.”
Nahida is the daughter of Rukkhadevata, a world-renowned mathematical genius. After a tragic accident leaves her orphaned, she is assigned a guardian angel and guardian devil pair - Alhaitham and Kaveh. Despite their clash of ideals and never-ending arguments, the two try their best to guide Nahida through her childhood as she faces increasing pressure to match up to her mother's legacy.

When Haitham is told by his grandmother he's to marry someone, he's not exactly thrilled. He doesn't get along with people, and if it weren't for the fact he was a prince, people wouldn't bother to associate with him. Even when he watches his soon-to-be husband walk down the aisle, he still feels nothing more than pity.
Yet despite their arranged marriage, his husband cares for him. He helps him when he panics. He takes his needs into consideration. He learns his habits. And most importantly, when his grandmother dies, he holds him in his arms.
Perhaps his grandmother was right. Perhaps his marriage could be pleasant.

She didn’t look particularly old, perhaps five or six, with startlingly white and silver hair tipped with green. Her eyes were intensely green and though she seemed surprised to see Kaveh, her smile was sweet. “Hello,” she said. “Are you Kaveh?”
“Um,” Kaveh said eloquently. “Yes?”
Kaveh comes back from a trip into the desert for inspiration and finds out that Alhaitham's daughter will be staying with them for an undetermined amount of time.
He's perfectly normal about this.

In the aftermath of Rukkhadevata's death, calamity befell the Nation of Wisdom at the hands of a false god. In desperation, a contract was forged between Sumeru and Celestia. Every nine years, the finest architect of Kshahrewar is burned with the ancient runes of the divine agreement and sent to continue construction on the Fallen God's labyrinth. In their inevitable death, they hopefully satiate the enraged deity for another nine years until another can be chosen to replace them.
Kaveh is the Light of Kshahrewar after all, so it's no surprise that he awakens one night to a fervent knocking at his door and a letter sealed with the red wax stamp of the Akademiya, demanding his immediate presence as the next Master Architect.
