Wilbur is this adored politician of a liberal party that is also the opposing party to Schlatt's republican party where the main character, Alex, works as Schlatt's second.
Alex, however, has this obsession and dream where he and Schlatt could have a domestic life together and Schlatt is catching onto this. Hence he throws Alex into the jaws of the "beast", Wilbur, who Schlatt claims is a criminal mastermind therefore he wants Alex to call him out on his incriminating behavior and catch him before it's "too late."
Or in short... Alex, Schlatt and Wilbur take a jump into politics but Alex just wants to quit and live his cottage core dream with Schlatt and their future kids, three of those! So Alex said to me.

“The only way you can help him,” she said, visibly fighting to remain calm, “is to get out of his life, permanently.”

Quackity’s life gets turned upside down when his abusive husband Schlatt is killed in a hit-and-run, leaving him alone to take care of his teenage stepson, Tubbo. He spirals, and he spirals hard. When he meets Wilbur at a grief support group the two of them strike up an unlikely friendship despite getting off on the wrong foot.
Slowly, things get better – and then they get infinitely worse.
