Summary
I can’t sleep. It doesn’t make sense. Last year you disappeared and my hawk never came back and I don’t think my letters were sending at all ... I don’t know how to describe what’s happening here in town. They banned travel for airbenders, shut down the newspapers, and now we only get something called "The Imperial Bulletin".
When Aang runs away from the Air Temple without a trace, Kuzon is left alone in the wake of his closest friend's disappearance, amidst rumors of war, turmoil, and rebellion brewing on the Fire Nation homefront, still finding reasons to write.
Or, how Kuzon never gave up looking for Aang, through colonialism, a Fire Nation draft, a resistance movement, and continents setting them apart. Collections of letters and written records of Kuzon's life, from childhood until the very end.

Raison d’être
(n.) a reason for existing[Aang stared at the familiar shapes and colors of the Air Temples, considering. Every crack and crevice the Fire Nation left was long since remembered.
What he was pondering now, was the fact all scorch marks and destruction was gone, and it was instead full of young children, monks, and nuns.]
Or, Aang travels back in time to the past after one week of restoring balance to the world.

Summary
Kuzon listens raptly to his grandmother’s stories when she shares their last cups of tea for the day before bed.
She had served most of her life as a Royal Firebender, then taken vows to serve as a Fire Sage in some of the most honored temples in the nation. Kuzon listens in wonder as she talks about meeting Avatar Roku when she was younger.
“The power of the Avatar is great,” she says as they sit together under the starry summer sky. The heavy heat from the day barely lifts on these nights and the stars seem to shimmer in the air where they live. “Even just entering a room, you could feel the shift in the air when he approached.”
“What was he like?” Kuzon asks eagerly.
His grandmother looks up at the sky for a long moment.
“He was kind.” She says eventually. “Sometimes too much so.”

Summary
Airbenders are encouraged to travel, taught from a young age the importance of seeing the world and experiencing everything possible. Of course, they aren’t actually allowed to travel until they earn their mastery tattoos.
Aang, as with most things, is an exception to this rule.
Aang tags along with Gyatso to the Festival of Lights, learns about Roku, and makes a few friends of his own.
