He doesn't which could quite simply be chocked up to the fact that Kao is more important than some kid's silly crush. Pete can behave. Non can suck it. And Kao is happy, looks at Pete like he's proud of his progress as a human and that's better than any alternative he could've concocted in his head honestly.
