Summary
Dean Winchester had three things from his father. The first one was a car. An old Impala that got 20 miles to the gallon, highway. It was an outright gift on his sixteenth birthday because John had decided to get himself a truck and give the car to his son. The second was a leather jacket that was too broad in the shoulders (and Dean was not a small man—he was 6’1” in his stocking feet). The third was a slave.

The truck stop is a fifteen minute walk from the motel in the November evening chill
The hard white light from over the pumps spills across the asphalt. Inside is warm. The restaurant is full of men eating, the store is doing a good business. Showers and administration are in the back.
At the office in the back he waits by the door until the guy in the Flying J polo shirt looks up. “Can I help you?”
Sam holds up his left hand with it’s barcode. “Stock, sir. Here for the hospitality station.”
The guy frowns, mostly just a little surprised and maybe busy. Distracted. “Where’s your owner?”
Sam fishes out his pass and the photo copy of his license. While Dean was in the hospital, he’d gotten Dean’s doctor to update his tests so he’s marked as up to date and clean. “My owner’s in the hospital, sir. But he sent me.” Dean’s in the motel room because ‘he’s not going to die in a hospital where the nurses aren’t even pretty’ but that’s more than the man cares about.

Summary
Sam picks up his sandwich and as he does, the waitress comes by to refill their drinks. It isn’t until he sees her spot his bar code that he realizes he didn’t use concealer. How could he have possibly forgotten.
“Wait, is that a slave?” she frowns. “I’m sorry, he can’t eat in here.”
John looks up and Sam feels as if he would rather be anywhere else.
“That’s my son,” John says in a voice so cold that Sam would swear the place is haunted.
“I’m sorry,” the waitress says. “It’s code. We could be shut down. I can bag up the meal but he’ll have to leave.”
