Summary
Tobio sits on the steps and closes his eyes, tilting his head back as the thump of volleyballs and squeak of shoes filter through the gym doors. He stretches out his legs.
“Excuse me, are you here for the boy’s volleyball team?” someone asks. Tobio’s eyes snap open, and he sees a teacher nervously adjusting his glasses.
Tobio stiffens, and yanks his feet back so fast that he almost scrapes himself on the steps. “No,” he replies hastily, and stands up. He leaves and doesn’t look back, because he cannot— and will not— set for another team.
