When Mary Elizabeth Potter was eleven, a witch named Minerva McGonagall came to her house, took her away from the Dursleys, and placed her with a foster family in the wizarding world. Not long after, on a shopping trip for incoming muggleborn students, Mary met her new best friend, Hermione, and the Drs. Granger, who invited Mary into their home for the rest of the summer.

Arriving at Hogwarts together, Mary and Hermione found themselves sorted into Slytherin and Ravenclaw, made new friends, and had all sorts of adventures, much to the annoyance of Mary's Head of House and aspiring protector, Professor Snape. Snape would very much prefer if Mary sat quietly in her room and stayed out of trouble; or, failing that, if she were in any other House but his.

However, with the reveal at the end of Mary's second year that Snape had been friends with her mother, and that, in another world, he might have been her godfather, their entire relationship is changed. And with conflict brewing within Slytherin House, a Dark Lord on the rise, and enemies around every corner, Mary and Snape will need each other if they are to make it through the coming years alive.

This is a spinoff of the Mary Potter series by PseudoLeigha (Leigha Greene), which was left unfinished after April of Mary's third year. Leigha gave her permission for this fic, and has helped tremendously with the plot and characterization, although it significantly diverges from what she had planned for the series. It is not necessary to read Mary Potter to follow Fuel to Fire, though I would recommend it; it's a great fic.

Fuel to Fire begins in August of 1993 and follows Mary, Snape, Hermione, and their friends, allies, and enemies all the way to the end of Mary's time at Hogwarts. The main pairing of this work is Mary/Snape, though there is also a major focus on Mary's friendships, particularly with Hermione, and her relationships with the other adults in her life, such as Remus, Sirius, McGonagall, and the Grangers. While the main pairing is very slowburn, it will not be waiting until the end of the story, and later works in the series will feature an underage, professor/student relationship! Along the way to getting together, Mary and Snape will also have minor relationships with people their own ages.

Other significant characters include Hermione Granger and her parents, Minerva McGonagall, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Lilian Moon (OC), Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Blaise Zabini and his mother, Theodore Nott, Neville Longbottom, Albus Dumbledore, Bellatrix Black Lestrange, and Tom Riddle.

The entire series has been pre-written, and the current draft is over a million words long. Archive warnings for the full series include Underage Sex, Graphic Depictions of Violence, and Major Character Death (not of Mary or Snape!). At times, the fic will be dark and angsty, but there will also be moments of humor, and Mary and Snape will get a happy ending.
