Summary
“I’m worried about Dad.” It was said so earnestly, Charlie’s eyes seemed to grow to twice their roundness as she worried her fingers around each other in a bizarre dance. “I think he might be slipping into one of those low moods that he gets sometimes and I know he hasn’t had one since you’ve been together so I just wanted to give you a heads up. Let you know that it’s just…it’s just something that happens to him, I’m learning a lot about it in the new reading material for the groups and it says it’s nothing anyone’s done or a reflection of them being unhappy in general but – oh, I could get you the book, hang on –”
“Charlie,” Alastor forced patience into his tone because that was a lot of rambling, even for her. “Before you start assigning me homework like one of your wailing wayward flock, do tell me what’s brought you to this conclusion.”
When Charlie is worried her father is slipping into a period of depression, she takes Alastor to one side to voice her concerns.

Summary
“You just can’t help putting things in your mouth,” Lucifer croaked. Ugh. It had been proper crying, he sounded awful.
“Not when they belong to you,” Alastor countered. “Is there a reason you’re crying on the floor? Did you have to ask someone to reach the coffee off the high shelf again?”
“Fuck you,” Lucifer said, happy to take Alastor’s offered hand and at least seventy percent sure he wasn’t going to yank it away so he fell in a heap. “I thought I should just…take a look. Capital L, with the eyes, capital E, and see if I couldn’t figure out what was happening.”
The mystery illness is no longer a mystery.

Summary
Charlie scrunched herself up with an even brighter smile. “See, that’s one of the reasons I’ve been talking to Emily on the downlow, a lot of people miss their families when they’re in two different places. My place is here with you, Dad. It is still…Dad, right? You don’t want me to call you something else because of the whole…” Charlie made a bump motion across her stomach.
“Still Dad,” Lucifer confirmed. It was where he was most comfortable. “I don’t know how great I’ll be at round two but I’m still Dad.”
“You’ll be great,” Charlie said.
Whatever he did to deserve this kid, he needed to do more of it. “Thanks, honey.”
“Greater than great,” Charlie nodded firmly, but there was something shifting in her face. Actually, her shoulders were moving, was she…laughing? “Maybe even five stars?”
Charlie learns the news and those side effects start to get interesting.

Summary
“Why can’t it be a bad girl?” Lucifer asked her. “Or a good boy?”
“Because that’s what you like to be called,” Niffty said, completely oblivious to Lucifer turning into a nightlight and just poking at his stomach till Alastor sent her on her way. They really did need to start checking communal areas before indulging but see above point about Lucifer's amorous mood swings and you could see how they’d gotten less careful.
Lucifer and Alastor take a field trip to Rosie's and Lucifer deals with some body image issues.

Summary
Lucifer turned around to see Angel, looking tired and drawn with mussed up glitter all over him and the smell of – yeah, okay, given what he worked doing, it wasn’t a surprise what he smelled like. “What?”
“You popped, Pops!” Angel smiled at him, surprisingly bright despite the obvious exhaustion creeping into his edges. “You got the belly!”
“Oh,” Lucifer looked down and yeah, as Alastor had noted the night before, his ‘what’s quacking?’ pyjamas didn’t even close all the way anymore. Any hopes someone would write this off as a beer belly were long gone. “Yeah, have you seen Charlie? I don’t exactly grow ‘em small.”
When you get to the halfway point and everything starts feeling a lot more real.

Summary
"Daisy's pretty," Lucifer argued. “You like flowers, I like flowers.”
"It's also strongly associated with the virgin mother, something of which you are neither." Alastor pointed out. "Your New Testament knowledge remains lacking."
"Never been a fan of sequels," Lucifer replied, but his face indicated he was thoroughly soured on the idea of ‘Daisy’.

Summary
"So once heaven decided to set up an embassy, it chose the point of the most excruciating painful memory then decorated the place with all the trappings of a redemption that none of them believe is possible!" Perhaps pettiness was a family trait among the upper echelons of angels. It would certainly explain a few things. "To the point of deifying your lovely paramour's former profession on every wall?"
"It does seem a little mean-spirited," Charlie agreed, pulling herself to sit on the desk instead of the ridiculously plush seats. “I can’t believe I didn’t notice that. No wonder Dad doesn’t like it in here.”

Summary
“Well, that’s utter nonsense!” Alastor said it like this was the most obvious thing ever.
“You don’t think she loved hugging koala bears and trying every flavour of ice cream she could think of?” Lucifer asked.
“Of course she did,” Alastor replied. “But that’s a holiday, not her home. If anything, it should confirm how ill suited she would be for heaven that in her single appearance there, she got into a grand court argument with the upper echelons of angelic power and lost her temper. While the idea of going upstairs is intolerable, I do wish I’d seen her display of righteous anger – she is so very much her father’s daughter.”
Denial is not just a river in Egypt, but Lucifer is at least trying to face up to those fun insecurities.

Summary
“How did this happen?” Vaggie asked. Oh, that was a loaded question, wasn’t it?
“Gonna have to really narrow that down,” Lucifer said. “Hell in general? Because I might run it but I didn’t create it. I barely even run it, let’s be honest here! Or did you mean me? Cause there’s a couple of thousand books on that one and take your pick. Or do you mean the kid that thinks my internal organs are a punching bag? ‘Cause you’re a big girl, pretty sure you know how that happens too.”
“No, I know how it happened, or – look, I can put it together.” Watching her make a face was downright comical. Yeah, that was not a topic of discussion with his daughter's girlfriend. “But it’s Alastor.”
“I know,” Lucifer nodded. “I was there.”
As Go time approaches, it's time to get all their ducks in a row and hope no one shoots any of them.

Summary
“I seem to have uncovered your dastardly plan, my dear!” Alastor piped up, all radio demon and static. “You just wanted to walk unaccosted. You have the power to scare the witless even further out of their tiny minds, why not employ it if that’s all you wanted?”
“It wasn’t all I wanted,” Lucifer protested. It was just a nice fringe benefit!
“Then you did want something,” Alastor replied, letting the microphone drop down by his side. “Why not tell me? I’ve always been very obliging, haven’t I?”
“It’s not the word I’d use for you, gorgeous, but sure.” Lucifer snorted, looking back towards the street. Down the street, he could see their destination and it was just a reminder of something else playing on his mind. “I think it’s probably time to let Sera know what’s coming.”
The one thing heaven and hell have in common, other than internet that really should get an upgrade, was bureaucracy.

Summary
“Lucifer,” Alastor said firmly. “Sometimes the only choices you have are bad ones. That doesn't mean you don’t still have to make one.”
Lucifer pursed his lips, scrunching up his face before he pulled himself up onto his knees. Alastor, ever the gentleman, offered him a hand to get back up. “Trying to do the right thing sucks.”
“I wouldn’t know,” sniffed Alastor.

“Depends on who asks me,” Alastor replied. “And whether they can be discreet with the results.”
“What if I asked?” At least Lucifer didn’t ask if he was discreet enough, that was laughable.
“I think,” Alastor put one hand over Lucifer’s coat, barely touching his stomach in case he was not in the mood to be touched there. “We have some excellent evidence right here of my continual indulgence of you.”
It's time for a heavenly field trip. No one is ready or happy about it.

Summary
“You and Jo having a very tense chat – for the record, we have amazing pastries in hell, they’re so good, they’re sinful – that’s not a great sign when you’re supposed to be talking about soul redemption.”
“There’s no such thing!” What was her name again? Something like Sarge, Private, it actually did straight up sound like a move from the Adam playbook to call an exorcist Private.
“Of course not,” Lucifer said. Was that actual gasps? Okay, this was a little bit fun, it had been a while since he’d managed to get in front of an audience and get this much of a reaction. “It has to be a trick, right? Or a malfunction? Because if it is possible for a damned soul to ascend to heaven, then you’re going to have to come to terms with the fact you needlessly slaughtered a fuck ton of people who could have been saved and let me tell you from experience, that does not sit well.”
Family is four letter word.

Summary
“Your only concern should be what’s happening right now, in the moment.” Alastor said it as much for himself as for Lucifer. Truthfully, he blamed that radio, it looked like the same model they’d had when he was small. A lovely piece; he really ought to try to recreate it when they returned if hell would allow it.
“And not about how I just pissed off most of the upper ranks and just changing my clothes makes me need to sit down?” Lucifer’s smile was barely enough to qualify for the criteria of one.
“If they would like a word, they can form an orderly line outside.” Alastor did at least remember to pull the curtains over for a modicum of privacy.
“Sure, you’re going to tell the oldest and most powerful angels in the known universe to go sit and spin while our kid tries to claw her way out of me,” Lucifer laughed, but then stopped abruptly. “You would, wouldn’t you? You’d absolutely do that! You wandered up to an archangel without a weapon that could kill one and proceeded to taunt them, of course you would do that.”
It's time to meet the newest member of the family. You didn't think that was going to be easy, did you?
