Summary
The kids keep calling him a merman - but he doesn't look like any cartoon or kids picture Steve's ever seen. His tail is too flat, for one, definitely more like an eel, plus there's no fins that Steve can see, the tail just ends in a rounded point.
Steve offers him a handful of peas, carefully cupping them until fish guy has his hands cupped underneath, ready for them to be tipped in. They don’t touch, and Steve vaguely wonders if the guy will feel cold from the water. The skin of his fingers isn’t pruned like a regular persons would be, which makes sense since he’s a fish guy.
Maybe he’ll feel clammy, or rubbery. Or scaly. Steve can very vaguely remember petting a stingray in a low tank at the aquarium once, surrounded by other kids. Might have been a field trip or something, but he can remember how surprised he was by the feeling of the mottled brown skin. Super rough, like sandpaper. Fish guy doesn’t look like he’ll feel like that either, though.

Summary
“Hey, no come on, it’s fine.” Eddie frowns, pouting a little, but he stops trying to rub the cream off.
“Why?”
“We’ve been over this, I’m worried about your skin. I know you’re not going brown or anything, but what if you like, can’t? And you’re just being damaged by the sun.”
“Sun not hurt,” Eddie tells him firmly.

Summary
“Hey Buddy, you got dressed.”
“Dessed,” Eddie plucks at the sleeve of the pullover, then rubs his arms, copying what Steve did to show what he meant by cold, Eddie even does a fair approximation of Steve's, ‘brrrrrr,’ sound. “Good?
Steve can see from here that the inside of his closet is a disaster; Eddie must have pulled things down while he was hunting for something to wear. Steve figures he can fix it later.
“Yeah, really good. Come on, lets make a grocery list.”
“Go-ser-eee list?”
“Yeah, all the things you like.”

Summary
The doctor frowns at Steve spectacularly, “a raccoon?”
“I know, wild right?”
“So that means he definitely needs a tetanus,” Hopper says unhelpfully from where he’s perched on the other side of the treatment room. He’s got a coffee in a Styrofoam cup and an unlit cigarette hanging from his mouth.
Steve hisses as the doctor uses some saline to loosen the sock, peeling it away from the wound, “I’ll give you something to numb the area, and then it will need some stitches. An x-ray might-”
“Nah,” Steve interjects, “stitch me up, I need to get home.”
The doctor has that look on her face again. From the other side of the room, Hopper sighs, “I’ll be back in a bit.”

Summary
“You were having a dream?”
“Yeah.”
“You want to tell me about it? Was it The Upside Down?”
“No. No not Upside down.”
“Oh,” Steve lets his eyes drift closed again, settling down onto his pillow, rubbing comfortingly slow sleepy circles on Eddie’s tummy until Eddie takes his hand.
“The grocery store.”
Steve yawns, “the grocery store?” He asks, now nearly back to sleep.
“Yeah...Eddidie- Eddie- I,” Eddie swallows thickly. It’s been a while since Eddie’s referred to himself in the third person like that, and it’s probably been three weeks since he’s said his name with a stutter. Steve opens his eyes again, moving closer, more alert. Whatever it was has really shaken Eddie. He turns on the pillow to look at Steve, brown eyes all big in the darkness, “every loaf, all...ends,” he explains, clearly distressed at the thought.

Summary
“Oh! Is that why he won’t let me do anything with his hair?”
“I-” Steve starts, then stalls, “what?”
“Well, in school your hair was like...ninety percent of your personality-”
“What-?”
“And, genetically, this makes Eddie part you, right?”
Steve frowns, that thought had never actually occurred to him, “I...guess?”
“And he really doesn’t like being different-” Chrissy gestures vaguely.
“Not different,” Eddie scowls, “little different,” he then immediately concedes.
