Summary
Less than a week into the new school year, a loud knock disrupts the quiet of the fourth-year Slytherin boys' dormitory. The last person Regulus expects to find on the other side of the door is his (somewhat) estranged older brother, Sirius, his handsome face bloodied and bruised.
Even more shocking than Sirius's sudden appearance, is his request - if they'd be so kind, could he bunk with them in Slytherin 'for a bit'?
His brother's refusal to explain his abscondence from Gryffindor is irksome, but Regulus lets him in regardless, confident he'll unravel the mystery in due time. After all, Sirius has never been very good at keeping secrets from his younger sibling, and Regulus can be *very* persuasive when he wants to know something.
Unbeknownst to the Black brothers, however, their choices in that moment set off a chaotic chain of events that will have lasting repercussions for The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, and change the trajectory of their lives for good.

Summary
“Mummy,” Sirius croaks, gray eyes gleaming with unshed tears. Walburga accidentally breaks several bones in Orion's hand. “Mummy, help me, please help.”
The room smells horrid, Walburga absentmindedly notes as she rushes to her son. There’s an unmistakable scent of piss in the air that makes her want to gag. As she gets closer, she has to smother down her rage to keep from exploding.
Shamefaced, Sirius drops his gaze to his desk. “M’sorry, Mummy, I didn’t mean to… but I’m stuck. I can't get out of my chair.”
Walburga bites the inside of her own cheeks to keep from screaming. Not at him, but at what happened to him. Her darling boy, the pride of their house, left to sit in his own waste. The gall of that -
“It’s okay, sweetheart, mummy will help.” The term of endearment feels foreign on her tongue, but Sirius visibly relaxes at it. “Tell me what happened. Where is the tutor we left you with?”

Or the incident that resulted in six-year-old Regulus being able to see the thestrals at his birthday party.
