Summary
The sun had just barely begun to set by the time Sam made it back to the cabin. It was comforting, surreal, and unsettling all at once to pull up to the property- he was grateful for the familiarity and gutted at the same time to remember that nobody was inside waiting for him. No boots to stomp across the room and demand a grocery run, no pots of canned chili bubbling at the stovetop with barked complaints of tracking mud through the doorway. It was just him and the rustle of shopping bags settling against the table in the main living area, the dull thud of soup cans knocking against each other.
