When she and her brother had encountered Hob some fifteen years later, she’d known upon entering the White Horse who he was and just how long his life was meant to last. She’d essentially seen him grow up, so surrounded was he by war and plague and famine. She just hadn’t expected him to go spouting it off in front of them.
Death introspects. Dream broods. Hob gets hit several times with a football.

“Where on Earth did you learn to make pizza?” Death asks around a mouthful. Hob hasn’t even finished serving himself yet and she’s already dug in. Dream is certain that etiquette would denote this rude behavior, but Hob doesn’t seem to mind, only giving her a disbelieving look.
“I’m immortal,” he says blandly. “Italy. Where else?”
Death comes to dinner. Dream does the dishes. Hob cries a little bit.

“I don’t think I remember,” Hob says, thinking of the 70s and trying not to let the vertigo of watching her turn his stomach. “But I’m happy to meet you again.”
“Yeah,” she says, putting a finger that looks like a cannoli to her lips thoughtfully. “You always are. Happy. No, you’re not. Those aren’t the same thing. You’re just... Oh. It’s not time for that.”
Delirium sends Hob to Hell. Dream doesn't cope well. Lucifer wonders how many times they need to quit their job before it sticks.

He’s probably stuck around the New Inn for too long anyway, and it’ll be fine without him; he’ll drift on the currents of the Universe and go where he’s needed- maybe he’ll even find some nice, distant, quiet planet to settle down on and try something new. Or maybe he’ll just find an island somewhere in the Mediterranean and grow some vegetables. Either way, he’s got so much to live for, and truly, this time, nowhere to go but up.
Hob learns to cope. Dream learns to be better. Delirium (sort of) learns how to drive. A family learns how to heal. And somehow, all manner of thing shall be well.
