Summary
For as long as he’d known, conflict was a constant; unceasing as the sea.
He’s born on the edge of the world, right on the cusp of strife. The radio often burbles with such rumours of war—and even louder than that, the one his parents wage at home. Every day without fail. There isn’t much that a boy of seven can do to stop that, much like how diplomacy proves futile in the face of mounting hostility. The fights generally conclude the same way: let’s just do it for our son, coupled with a resigned sigh or a bruised cheek. Or a picture frame, shattered beyond recognition.
Each time, his mother looks remarkably dour, and his father—well, his father won’t even look at him.
Since there’s nothing he can change, he adapts.

Or: in which Twilight’s upbringing leaves him a little more than averse to conflict.
