Summary
*It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...*
14-year-old Molly Morissey survives each day by putting one unsteady foot in front of the other. Breathing deeply. Keeping the panic inside. It's been almost four months since her closest friends (Genevieve, Aspen, Zeke- her only friends) scattered to the four winds, leaving her alone in the small, claustrophobic town of Lazarus, Pennsylvania. She can't blame their families for leaving, not after what happened. It's a miracle that they're being allowed to stay with her for Christmas, really, and Molly thinks she should be more excited. Instead, per usual, she's nervous. It's taken four months to patch herself up, to reach this state of semi-comfortable numbness.
When they leave again, she doesn't know if she'll be able to let them go.
***
Written for lonely queer kids by someone who's been through it, "A lot like Christmas" is a comfortable sweater of a story, a story about friendship, belonging, and the things we'll do for the people we love. Come in, stay awhile- we're glad to have you.
