Summary
There are times when people notice the faraway look in Steve Harrington’s eyes. That dark brokenness that flickers across his face, the way his eyes glaze over sometimes, like his mind isn’t actually in his body at the moment. It’s eerily similar to the look in a veteran's eye after returning from war. After watching your comrades die, and almost dying yourself.
They see those distant looks, the horror and fear flashing across his face. But no one really knows what happened to him to make him look that way.
And they don’t know what happens behind the closed doors of the Harrington house.

Summary
Most people who buy from him are just looking to party. Have a good time, or just look cool in front of their friends. Steve though… it’s different. That boy is haunted. He smokes because it’s the only way he knows how to deal with whatever shitstorm is going on inside his head. Eddie knows because it’s the same for him. He recognizes that look. Steve is a broken man. Takes one to know one or whatever.

Summary
Steve doesn’t know what it is about him that’s so punchable. He doesn’t know what makes everyone want to beat the shit out of him. First his own father, then his so-called ‘best friend’, then Jonathan Byers, then fucking monsters, then Billy Hargrove, then Russians.
Was he born to be a punching bag? Just something for everyone to take their anger out on? Did he deserve it? He probably did at some points, but not always. He certainly didn’t deserve it when he was eleven years old and his dad broke his nose for not cleaning the pool well enough.

Summary
He takes deep breaths in as he carves into his wrist and arm. It bleeds. He loves the blood.
God, he’s so fucked up.
So? The world doesn’t need to know.
Sometimes he wants the world to know. He isn’t sure why, because he definitely doesn’t want someone to try and stop him. Maybe he just wants to be seen. Not just perceived as who his outer shell seems to be, but really seen. He just wants people to look deep inside him and know that he’s in pain, he wants them to understand. But at the same time, that’s the last goddamn thing he wants.

Summary
It’s just so hard.. He tried. But it turns out quitting is a lot harder when you actually tell yourself that you’re quitting. For good. Forever.
He can’t imagine never doing it again. He doesn’t want to think about never doing it again. Never feeling that relief. As much as he tries to deny it, he’s become addicted to the sting, the clean slice, the sight of his own blood, the exposed fat beneath his split open skin, the scars it leaves. Never feeling that again is.. kind of frightening.
