Summary
Kalvaxus wasn't the first dragon to be sealed into a humanoid form, and he certainly wasn't the last. Hundreds of years before the adventures of the Bad Kids, elven magic-wielders sealed a dangerous beast living in the heart of Fallinel's great forests into the body of a young elf, and handed her off to Telemaine Lomenelda. That not-an-elf grew up to be one of the finest swordsmen in the world, taking out the eye of a great pirate and later wedding him, before producing a child of her own--a perfectly normal half-elf, with no trace of her true draconic form in his soft and mortal features.
You can probably see where this is going.
...
Getting crushed under burning rubble is a fantastic opportunity for latent dragon genes to finally kick in, as Fabian finds out while trying to save his parents' lives.
Having to go fight a dragon while knowing you're the same monster your friends are trying to kill...well, that's far from something he's looking forward to.

Summary
Riz's best friend turned into a dragon.
Not a full dragon, actually. Just half. And that would be fine, really, if he hadn't just fought Kalvaxus and discovered that his father was killed and eaten by a dragon and Adaine didn't have residual nightmares from the previous Elven Oracle about Kalvaxus sinking her ship and Kristen wasn't all too aware of how easily things could have gone wrong if she didn't create her new deity. It would be great, if Fig and Gorgug weren't wrestling with the knowledge that a dragon nearly slaughtered them and sent forces to kill their families. It'd be totally, perfectly awesome if the entire school hadn't just found out that a dragon destroyed their prom and kidnapped seven teenage girls and developed a new loathing for dragons because of it.
Is it any wonder he hasn't seen him since after prom?
...
Riz tries to adjust to Fabian being half-dragon. Fabian is also trying to adjust to being half-dragon. Both of them are a little bit terrified of losing their best friend because of it.
(They don't, of course. They never will.)

Summary
“Coach Gorthalax?”
Gorthalax looks up at the timid voice, barely clocking the source of it because of how unfamiliar the tone is. He barely keeps his eyes from widening at the sight of the kid in the doorway—Fig has kept him posted on her friends’ general wellbeing, Fabian Seacaster included, but this is the first time he’s seen him in person since the battle with Kalvaxus. He doesn’t look like a kid who bolted from the grounds of Aguefort at the end of his fourth day at school after prom and never came back, or like he’s spent a few months being coaxed steadily out of a literal closet and only just worked up to being on the grounds of his own house. He looks like a normal, if anxious, teenager.
Well, a normal teenager that sprouted wings and a tail after getting blasted by dragonfire during a fight and whose skin is now forty-percent covered in scales, but that’s still pretty normal by Aguefort Academy standards.
...
Fabian tries to resign from the bloodrush team. Gorthalax has a few questions before he goes.
(He doesn't end up resigning after all.)

Summary
Papa would be ashamed of him. Embarrassed by him. He’d have disowned him by now, the way Mama might as well have. He didn’t raise a coward, didn’t raise him to be some shivering, crying child who can’t help anyone or do anything, and yet here Fabian is being whiny and pathetic and ruining everybody else’s spring break.
He sniffles before he can stop himself, tucking his face further into his knees and pulling his wings tighter around himself, wrapping himself up until all he can see is emerald green and shimmering gold. It’s quieter like this, easier to breathe, even though he just wants to sink into the sea and disappear for a thousand years. He might be able to. He’s a dragon. Mama won’t answer any of his questions about being one, reminding him over and over that he should just know these things somehow. He doesn’t know if he inherited their true immortality or if he’s still facing down only a century or so more. He might be able to sleep for a thousand years, if he really tried.
Maybe you should.
...
The Bad Kids embark on spring break. Fabian isn't having a good day.

Summary
Fabian runs away from the Crow's Keep, and he runs away from James Whitclaw, and he runs away from Telemaine Lomenelda when he tries to seal his draconic traits away again. All in all, it's been a few days of too much running and too much hiding and too much feeling like he's abandoned his friends, even if the time he's spent in this dragon's den is very nice. He's learned more about that side of him from a near-stranger than his mama certainly ever bothered to say, but he's not complaining. He's back on his feet. His wing has been healed. It's time to join the fight again.
The dragon agrees--with one caveat.
If he wants to go back to his friends, he'll have to learn to fly.
...
Fabian flees Kei Lumennura when Telemaine attempts to seal him with the same curse he used on his mother, and stumbles across a proper dragon for the first time...ever. One that isn't trying to kill him, at least.
