"This permanent reminder of cold waters, of drowning in sludge and of palisman blood on his hands, haunted his reflection. And every time the scars itched, every time their stiffness prevented him from playing flyer derby, and every look from a stranger, trapped him in his own body that much more.
Still, if there ever was any silver lining, it was Darius fussing over him because of them. As soon as the man had seen him once they went back to the Isles, it was nothing but tender reassurances and care. Most would find it stifling, the constant reminders to apply salves, the questions of how he was feeling today, and the research into which Darius poured his attention, trying to find better remedies. But not to Hunter. To him, this was a yearned affection, one that made the situation a bit better. Or at least good enough that he could look at himself in the mirror some days, without spiraling down into a panic attack."
