Summary
“I’m making a scarf. For Enjolras.”
He reached over to pick up what Courfeyrac had assumed was one of Enjolras’s discarded hoodies that instead revealed itself to be a mostly-complete knitted scarf in the shade of bright red that Enjolras loved. Courfeyrac made a cooing noise. “That’s fucking adorable.”
“Shut the fuck up,” Grantaire mumbled, but he was smiling, just slightly.

Enjolras turned his head to brush his lips against the heart outline tattooed on Grantaire’s left wrist. “This one’s probably my favorite, though.”
Grantaire made a face. “Why?”
Enjolras shrugged. “Probably because it’s the most mysterious,” he said. “You’ve never told me about that one.”

Enjolras scowled at him. “What are you doing here so early?” he asked.
“Disturbing your thinking time, apparently.”
Enjolras’s eyes narrowed. “Be serious.”
“I am—”
“I swear to God if you say wild I will lose it.”

Summary
Enjolras resisted the urge to curl his lip at the idea of calling some guy Grantaire was hooking up with his ‘boyfriend’, but he knew the semantic would be lost on Courfeyrac. Besides which, Courfeyrac would almost certainly use it as further ammunition for his belief that Enjolras harbored some kind of romantic feelings for Grantaire.
Which he very well might, but Courfeyrac was the exact last person he planned on ever having that conversation with.
Well, second to last, at least. Grantaire was probably last.

What news?” he asked urgently.
Bossuet swallowed, glancing at Combeferre before looking back at Enjolras. “Grantaire,” he said, and Enjolras felt as though the floor had dropped out from under him.
“Where?” he managed, his grip on Bossuet’s arm tightening. “Where is he?”

“You know how I’ve always wanted a tattoo?”
Now Grantaire did glance up, amusement plain on his face. “I know how you’ve wanted a tattoo ever since you and I started fucking,” he said.
“I’ve wanted one for longer than that,” Enjolras said stubbornly.
Grantaire smirked. “Sure you have.”

This time, Grantaire did not let him interrupt. “Knowing it would be healthier to stay away and actually being able to stay away are, as it turns out, two separate matters.” He shrugged once more, something almost helpless in the gesture. “And while I have always had full confidence in my knowledge, I am nothing if not a weak man.”
Joly pursed his lips. “The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak?” he suggested.
Grantaire half-smiled. “Something like that, yes."

“What are you working on?”
“Oh, you’ll like this,” Grantaire said, brightening as he sat up. “This is right up your alley. We’re talking corruption, greed, scandal, potential conspiracy and cover-up—”
Enjolras raised both eyebrows in surprise. “Well color me intrigued,” he said. “Who’s involved?”
“Dunkin’ Donuts.”

“Look, a shooting star! Make a wish!”
Though Enjolras followed his gaze, he didn’t look nearly as excited. “Are you sure that’s a shooting star?” he asked, somewhat doubtfully. “I’m pretty sure that was just an airplane.”
Grantaire pouted, but quickly rebounded. “Fine, then make a wish on the inbound United Airlines flight from New York.”

Courfeyrac raised his voice to be heard above the general noise that permeated the back room of the Musain. “General Lamarque is dead!”
At once, all noise ceased, and everyone turned to look at Enjolras, who drew himself up, his pale face set with determination. “This is the hour for which we have waited—”
But Courfeyrac interrupted. “Enjolras,” he said heavily. "We are discovered."

“I don’t think your cat likes me,” the man in red said to her human.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” her human scoffed.
The man in red shot her a somewhat narrow-eyed look of his own. “Didn’t you say she likes everyone?” he asked, somewhat doubtfully. “Even Bossuet, who has horrible luck with animals?”
Her human glanced at her thoughtfully. “Maybe she just knows him better,” he suggested, giving the man in red a playful sort of smile. “Which just means you need to start spending more time here to win her over.”

“So why do need Marius’s help?” Courfeyrac asked.
“We need a lawyer.”
Courfeyrac’s smile instantly disappeared, and he pinched the bridge of his nose. “Oh, God,” he sighed. “What did Enjolras do now?”
Combeferre huffed a dry laugh. “Believe it or not, it’s not for Enjolras.”
Courfeyrac’s eyes narrowed. “What did Grantaire do now?”

Joly’s eyes narrowed. “What did you do?”
Grantaire took a deep breath before blurting, “I cast a spell on Enjolras.”
“You—what?”
“I cast a spell on Enjolras,” Grantaire repeated, a little desperately. “A love spell, to be specific. And I’m pretty sure it worked.”

Joly shifted from where he lay next to Bossuet, glancing at Combeferre. “Combeferre?”
“Hm?” Combeferre said.
“Do you believe in Heaven?” Joly asked, drawing an idle finger against the wood grain of what may have been a table, or a chair, before it was broken apart and made part of the barricade. “Or Hell, I suppose, if you take at face value the Church’s claim that one cannot exist without the other?”
Combeferre stared up at the sky, his brow furrowing slightly. “Honestly, prior to this evening, I had never given it much thought.”

“Oh,” Feuilly said, stopping in his tracks in the doorway. “You’re here.”
Grantaire barely glanced up at him. “Try not to sound so disappointed.”
“Not disappointed,” Feuilly assured him, though that wasn’t quite true. “Just, uh, surprised.” He dumped his bag at his easel before adding, a little pointedly, “I honestly wasn’t sure you were aware that the building was open this early.”

“I just meant, y’know…” Enjolras waved a dismissive hand. “Make yourself comfortable. Mi casa es tu casa.”
“Glad to see the Duolingo lessons are paying off,” Grantaire said, and Enjolras’s scowl deepened.
“Seeing as how I’m letting you stay here for the foreseeable future—”
“What, I’m supposed to not make fun of you for the next week or two?” Grantaire asked, sitting down on the couch. “That’s a little unrealistic, don’t you think?”

“Just what?” asked Morpheus, Dream of the Endless, Grantaire’s maker and, in due time, Grantaire was certain, his unmaker.
“Let me see his nightmare through to the end,” Grantaire pleaded. “Let me stay until Enjolras finds himself in your sister’s realm. Let me see if there is any role yet that I have to play in his story.”

Summary
Grantaire took a deep breath. “I need you to remember that the handcuffs were your idea.”
Enjolras’s eyes narrowed. “Why?”
“Handcuffs, I might add, that don’t come with a safety release,” Grantaire added, clearly avoiding the question. “Which, had we used the pink fluffy ones that I have, would not have been the case, because those were meant—”
“Grantaire.” Grantaire fell silent and Enjolras gave him a look before repeating, “Why?”
“I lost the key.”
