Summary
Still, they had all found each other in the messy cafes of the Village in the 60s where they learned to work the crowd and work the microphones and become real singers. And they found their way back to each other in some sense now, with Paul letting James in to their world again. Life really was a series of awaited accidents.
Years later, after all their breakups, James gets a chance to work with Art and Paul. He observes and considers croissants and neighborhoods and the nature of their trio. It goes basically as well as any of them expect.

Summary
All three of them fell back into the ebb and flow of off-hand comments and thinking and writing. Once or twice Paul took it upon himself to lean over Art’s lap to look at his notebook, seemingly fascinated by Art’s pencil sketches of geometric forms and formulas that approximated music in his mind. The invasion of his personal space was welcome in a strange way - Paul was an inexplicable mixture of something fresh-smelling like clean laundry and the same old, odd smell of sweat from the bars and cafes. Though he would never admit it outloud because he wasn’t exactly a touchy-feely guy, Art liked the feel of being crowded like this. Or maybe liked the feeling of Paul crowding him, being the focus of his attention. Paul didn’t seem like the kind of guy who just focused on anything or anyone. He seemed particular.
Art and Paul meet while performing in the folk cafes of Greenwich Village. Like in all worlds, they begin as a perfect match.

Summary
Art closed his eyes and breathed. The air was cold but Paul’s hands were warm and his mouth was warm, was perfect. Art let Paul and his infinite beauty and the romance of the night, being kissed goodbye in a car by a person who was fascinating, who was like lightning and a thunderstorm all at once, swallow him up whole.
The beginning of Simon & Garfunkel and the continuation of Paul and Art. Falling in love is the easy part.

Summary
“I’m glad I ran into you here,” he said, almost like an afterthought as he turned to walk north.
“Me too,” Art said. And feeling especially bold, he added, “Wherever you are is my favorite place to be.”
As Paul walked on he didn’t turn around so Art wasn’t sure if he heard it. He watched until Paul’s figure blended in with the cars and the landscape of attached homes side by side and street signs and twilight. He hummed a little tune to himself as he took the steps up to the door and into the house.
Art and Paul, figuring out how to be, at least for now.

Art smiled and pressed his forehead against Paul’s. Paul could feel his breath, heated and full of life, smelling like whiskey and mint from some chewing gum and all the loving memories of every kiss and every song. “My love must be a kind of blind love,” he sang in that voice - the one that made Paul’s head snap to attention the first time he heard it, though he was antsy with nerves himself. The voice that prompted Paul to cross the crowded room and ask an idiotic question about the microphone, because he knew that his future was right there on stage at Gerde’s in front of him, in an ugly sweater that somehow seemed perfect, singing with a guy named James.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in 1990. One more night for Paul spent in rage and thrall with his partner. There are no new conclusions here.
