Summary
“Name?” Iwaizumi asked, his eyes darting to Oikawa who had grabbed a cup and pen while he counted out the money.
“Akaashi,” he said softly, distinctly aware that the two chatty Cathys had stopped their conversation. Looking back he was taken aback, by the somewhat accusing pen that was pointed at him by the surprisingly now intimidating barista with fluffy hair. “You’re the second year transfer in the writing department who managed to nab an academic scholarship.”
Akaashi’s eyes widened for what felt like the hundredth time today (and he hadn’t even started class yet), “I am. How did you --”
“He knows everything… for some reason,” Iwaizumi supplied easily, “It’s a pain in the ass.”
“I’m starting to realize this whole school is a pain in this ass,” Akaashi mumbled.
Oikawa, who had since put the pen down to write the name on the cup, snickered, “Oh you have no idea, young Shakespeare or whoever the fuck.”

Summary
In his mind, Konoha Akinori knows that volleyball is just a sport. But his heart knows it as something different.
Komi would probably tell him that his mind should probably focus on the upcoming end-of-year exams if he actually wants to maintain his scholarship.
Akaashi would probably tell him that there really is no difference between ‘the mind’ and ‘the heart’. That they’re both symbolic constructs created by the brain to contrast logic and feelings.
Still, his heart sees volleyball as something completely different.

Kita finds himself nodding along earnestly, “Akaashi is very talented.” And with the way Yachi smiles at him, he thinks that maybe the talk is over, that whatever Yachi set out to do she accomplished. His eyes dart back to his lunch, waiting for the girl to say her parting words.
“We should do something for him.”
The chopsticks he had been holding clatter dumbly into his lunch box as he glances up at the girl in surprise. “Huh?”

Summary
Bokuto knows that progress isn’t linear. He knows this from his own experience, his ability from being absolutely clueless on the court, to being on top of his game.
However, he hadn’t really internalized the fact that it was like this for everyone. That life, in general, is a constant back and forth.
In the months that he’s spent with Akaashi Keiji, this crazily flexible concept of progress has become abundantly clear in all facets of his life.
Because Akaashi Keiji, despite all of his calm stares and preparedness, is still a work in progress.
