Summary
Crowley’s love had always burned like hellfire.
Fierce, powerful, all-consuming. It moved too fast for anyone to stop, devoured everything in its path, could turn Holy water to impotent steam.
His love burned. Anyone who came close could feel it, feel its heat, see the tongues of flame licking against his pupils. How he was not already aflame from the force of it was impossible to understand.
Surely such a love would hurt to touch. Surely it would destroy the very thing it burned for.

(There is no way for Crowley to say what he means, nothing even comes close: I thought you died, and I didn’t care if I did. I nearly lost you, and now I’m about to if we can’t figure this out, but Lord, I don’t want to spend another minute not being near yo
(Now, Crowley has had six thousand years to think about kissing Aziraphale.

Summary
A quiet retirement has been good to one Madame Tracy from London. It’s given her some time to come to terms with all the stress of an apocalypse, a new romance, and all the changes therewith. It’s also resulted in a new pursuit: babysitting.
She babysits as a favor to her neighbors, and the children find they rather like their colorful (literally), charismatic babysitter, and she finds she rather likes their excitement, so it works out for everyone.

“You shouldn’t read them those stories,” the girl says, judgement in her voice.
“What stories, Delly dearie?”
“The fairy tales. Where everything turns out right without anyone even doing anything, where everyone falls in love for no reason.”
“Well, love, it’s not no reason–”
“It is! They barely even know each other.” She makes a face “There have to be better love stories. Those don’t have good morals.”
Better love stories... Well, she hadn’t thought of it as one, but…
“I know a better love story,” she suggests.
Delilah makes a suspicious face.
“It starts in a garden, with a serpent–”

Summary
“Mr. Crowley? Are you–”
“‘M fine,” he practically shouts as he is snapped out of his angry trance. He snaps his fingers to miracle the bedroom back to order, but all he succeeds in doing is miraculously shattering the winged mug. “Agh. Get the broom.”
“Mr Crowley, I think maybe you’d better get some rest too–”
“I said I’m fine. Just– lie down your corporation. Clean this up.” He’s back down the stairs before he’s finished talking, jumping back in the Bentley and resting his head against the wheel in despair.
“Traitor,” he mumbles against her dashboard.
He cannot be back in that bookshop, not with Aziraphale’s hand still everywhere. He cannot relive six thousand years of love and heartbreak and hope and despair and desire and terror and everything else he’d ever indulged his demonic soul in every time he crosses the threshold. He cannot let his fragile world be upended like it was today.
~
Crowley returns to the bookshop the next week.
