Summary
On August 26th, 1934, Gwen Stacy brushed past the doorman at the Ritz-Carlton, walked into the dining room, and set herself on fire.
With the city plunged into pandemonium, I didn’t think twice before I hit the pavement: both as private eye Peter Benjamin Parker, and behind the scenes as The Spider, New York City’s most notorious vigilante. The criminal underworld cowered at the sound of my name and the shadow of my webs — but there were some parts of the Big Apple’s seedy underbelly that I couldn’t begin to imagine…

it's a little hard to explain the whole thing because both fics have a very different feeling and appeal to them, but they form a great universe together.
both have Sads(TM), Heartwarming Tales About Daddy Stuff(TM), truly impressive and extensive research, and absolutely gorgeous, vivid writing.
also first person lol. but in a good way.Three Steps to Inferno is more gritty, classic Noir style, lots of people die, lots of people are kinda jerks including the main characters but they're trying. Atem's art is also gorgeous. A plot with twists too.
Rhapsody in Blue is ... melancholy, soft but in a weathered way, less the flickering light of a match and more the little spots of sunlight filtering into a room with the blinds drawn. it's very very pretty and artful in a heartwrenching way.
