Summary
In that cave in Afghanistan, Tony keeps seeing flashes of things. He sees Steve more than anything. Sees blue eyes and a bright smile and if he tries hard enough he can almost hear the laugh that comes with it. Sometimes it’s that first day again, with roaming hands and a rush to get off in the bathroom of some party he didn’t want to be at, followed by an easy grin and the promise to do that again sometime.
It’s that last night he remembers the most. He can almost hear the words whispered in the dead of night and remembers the ones he held back, because Tony has never known how to be completely honest. He didn’t know how to say that this casual friends with benefits things was starting to feel less like friends and more like love, but when he lays down with his aching chest and bleeding fingers on the poor excuse for a cot at night, he wishes more than anything that he could have found the words before.

Summary
Steve taps the eraser end of his pencil against the open page of his biology textbook as he rereads a sentence about the function of the mitochondria again. No matter how many times he goes over the page, he still doesn't know the rough endoplasmic reticulum from the golgi apparatus, and the diagram is starting to appear blurry in his vision. He's about ten seconds away from throwing the book against the wall in frustration when the door to his study room abruptly opens, then closes again.
He looks up to see a boy about his own age with wide eyes and dark, tousled hair breathing heavily against the door. The boy briefly meets his eyes, flashes him a smile, then turns to look out the small window between the door and the wall. He must not like what he sees, because he mutters a curse and bolts to duck behind Steve's chair.
Steve twists around to ask what the hell is happening, but the boy puts a finger to his grinning lips and whispers, “If anyone asks, you didn't see anything.”

Summary
Tony is used to not sleeping. Three hours a night, maybe four if he’s lucky and the insomnia and nightmares take it down a notch for a bit. Steve, however, is the early to bed and early to rise kind of guy. The kind that likes to pull Tony into his arms at the end of a date night and fall asleep together, and Tony doesn’t want to tell him that he never actually falls asleep on those nights. In the four months they’ve been together, Tony has become an expert of sneaking out and sneaking back in.

Summary
All things considered, it could have gone worse. Tony has a concussion that makes him feel dizzy and a couple of large gashes in his abdomen from where the suit had caved in just a bit that required more than a few stitches. Two broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder top it off, but he doesn’t need to be in the hospital for more than a day.
He tells himself that the short stay is why Steve didn’t show.

Summary
Tony has a vision in his mind for the day he graduates from college. It’s been there since he was just a kid and the furthest ahead he could imagine for himself was that day. At the time it seemed like a hundred years away, and it carried an allure of freedom that was nearly unfathomable back then.
The reality ends up disappointing, until Steve changes that.

Summary
Their first date is as close to perfect as it comes, especially considering how Tony spent most of the time before it terrified it would be a disaster. It was almost like any other night between them, except Rhodey held his hand on the sidewalk and on top of the table, and then he kissed him in front of the door at the end of the date. That’s where it becomes a little awkward.
Not the kiss, though. The kiss was all kinds of wonderful and spectacular and the fireworks Tony’s been hearing about for so long. But it’s awkward when they fully realize that the date is over, but they’re returning to the same apartment. They hover in the entryway for a moment, eyes flitting between each other and anywhere else.
“So do you wanna watch a movie?” Tony finally asks, and Rhodey’s laughter makes him laugh, too.

Summary
It’s a Friday night at around nine pm when Sam decides that he might be better off never leaving his house again. Every time he does, trouble seems to find him in one form or another. It starts with a cute guy coming up to him at the bar just a few seconds after Sam walks in, and he’s completely Sam’s type. He’s a little on the shorter side, with dark brown hair and eyes almost the exact same shade, and there’s an easy grin on his face that tells Sam that he knows exactly how attractive he is.
The only problem is that his initial greeting of “Hey there, handsome,” is immediately followed by “would you mind pretending to be my date for the next ten minutes or so?”

Summary
The first time is something of a joke.
Tony is doing that rambling thing like always, hands moving around rapidly and coming dangerously close to smacking passersby in the face. Rhodey isn’t even sure what he’s ranting about anymore. Maybe one of his professors, or that annoying guy in his physics class. All he does know is that he wants to get to the cafeteria before they run out of pizza and Tony walks slow when he’s talking. So Rhodey grabs him by the wrist when his hand flies in front of him again, spinning him around and planting his lips firmly against Tony’s for just a moment.
Or, the story of six kisses over the years.

Summary
Tony hates the concept that you’re not supposed to go to bed angry. The reality of it is that sometimes he gets angry over nothing, and it would be better just to go bed a little bit angry on nights like those.

Summary
Pregnancy tests should be instant, Tony thinks, because the waiting sucks. It feels like the rest of his life is being decided in five minutes, and that’s far too much time to get caught up in all of the what ifs.

Summary
“You’re going to get us caught if you don’t be quiet,” Steve whispers into the column of Tony’s throat, lips brushing his skin before he places another biting kiss there.
“You’re going to get us caught if you keep taking so long,” Tony counters, speaking just as low.

Summary
The words slip out by accident the first time. For just a moment, Steve forgets that they aren’t there yet. He forgets that this thing between them is still fairly new and fragile, because to him it’s the one of very few things he’s unwaveringly sure of. The idea of loving Tony hasn’t scared him in a long time, and in his head he says it often enough that maybe it should be more surprising that it took him this long to slip and say it out loud than the fact that he did it at all.

Summary
Steve hates nights like this. He watches from the corner of the room while Tony flirts with some guy, a plastic cup clenched so tightly in his hand that it might break, and wonders why he even came to this party with him. He knows why, of course, because Tony asked if he wanted to and Steve never says no. Tony doesn’t even have to ask twice. One look is all it takes, and Steve would follow him anywhere.
But this is always how it goes - with Tony flirting with someone else while Steve desperately wishes it was him.

Summary
He knew it would happen sometime or another. At some party or event that Tony doesn’t even want to be at in the first place, or maybe crossed paths on the sidewalk or the grocery store. For a city with millions of people, it’s still near impossible to avoid someone forever in New York.
Unfortunately, knowing he would run into Steve eventually doesn’t quite prepare him for the reality of it.

Summary
Tony loses track of what the fight is about fairly quickly. He knows it started with what seemed like playful bickering, but somewhere along the way the jabs turned much more pointed. Barbed wire wrapped around them, until each one was like a knife wound.
“Well, you know what, I'll make it easy for you, then,” Tony says, backing away to grab his jacket. “You don't have to worry about me and all my issues anymore.”

Summary
Tony looks at Steve for a long moment, taking in all those subtle tells of his. The slight downturn of the corners of his mouth and the crease between his brows, but they don't come with any tension in his jaw or shoulders, which means he's more disappointed than angry. His eyes never hide hurt, but there's none to be found in them. Whatever it was didn't crush him, and Tony knows just how to fix him when he's like this.
He pokes Steve's arm with his socked toes. "Hey, Steve, why did the golfer bring two pairs of pants?"
Steve sighs, but there's already a hint of a smile. Further evidence to support Tony's hypothesis. "Why, Tony?"
"In case he got a hole in one."

Summary
Steve is there, holding Tony's sleepy one year old against his chest and stirring scrambled eggs on the stove with his free hand. He's murmuring quietly to Peter, low enough that Tony can't quite make out the words, but there's a soft smile on his face as he talks.
Tony wanders further in, sneaking up behind him and wrapping his arms around his waist. He buries his face into Steve's hair, and he can hear the grin in Steve's voice as he says, "Good morning, dear."

Summary
There's a ring on Bucky's finger.
It's the first thing Tony notices when he walks into the bar for Natasha and Sharon's joint bachelorette party. He thinks about turning around and not coming back, just ditching the event entirely and maybe even the wedding tomorrow, but he tosses the ridiculous thought the second it comes. He promised Sharon when she asked him to be her man of honor that he could handle Bucky being Nat's. He could deal with one day of being cordial to his ex, even if the day comes with walking down an aisle together.
But now there's a ring on Bucky's finger.
