Summary
Virgil’s next words bring his brain to a halt.
“’Course. Happy anniversary.”
Logan opens his mouth, closes it. Opens it again. Takes a long sip of coffee.
He is unsure how to broach this subject. Virgil has done a very nice thing. Perhaps he should keep quiet, but he’s already shaking that off; Virgil would likely be expecting reciprocity, or at least participation in plans for such an important day. He sets down his mug.
“Virgil,” he says, in as gentle a tone he can, because they have instituted rules about not bickering before they have both sufficiently woken up enough to carry out logical argumentation. “It’s not our anniversary.”

Summary
His glasses are off, his hands are over his eyes, and if not for the absurd amounts of coffee they had both consumed and the bright lights of the empty classroom they are occupying, Logan would probably fall asleep.
If not for the fact that Logan loves astronomy so much, he would gladly fold it in for the night and get some much-needed rest. As it is, Virgil is also in his class, and he does not hold the same inclination for the subject.
And also, Logan has a massive crush on Virgil and would likely do anything he asks, except Virgil doesn’t know that part. He likely thinks that Logan is helping him study because of his deep love of science.

Summary
Virgil’s seemingly startled by the sudden appearance of Logan lying down with his head in his lap.
“Hey there, honey.” He cards his fingers through Logan’s hair in greeting, smiling down at him.
“Hello,” Logan says, pleased. “Have you been asleep for long?”
Virgil hums vaguely, in the way he usually does whenever his sleeping schedule does not quite stack up to Logan’s expectations for a healthy sleep schedule.
He supposes that it would be a bit difficult to ask his magical boyfriend whose domain hovers in the land of unconsciousness to maintain a sleeping schedule suited for a perfectly normal person, though.

Summary
It’s likely that Nikola’s tomfoolery hasn’t disturbed him at all. The man only gives Logan a look—his eyes are a stunning shade of brown so dark they’re practically black—and returns his attention to his novel.
Logan clears his throat awkwardly, jams his cap back on his head, and turns to Nikola, who is still trotting around them, seeming very pleased with herself, wagging her tail, looking every inch a pompous showdog.

Summary
And Logan keeps sitting down next to him.
At lunch, in their two shared classes, in homeroom. He wishes Virgil a good morning and good afternoon every day at their locker. As the months of the school year slowly creep by, Virgil definitely does kind of feel like crawling into his locker, sometimes, but less and less so, because.
Because he and Logan are kind of friends now.
Logan asks him about his favorite hot beverage and then starts bringing him chai when he and his uncles stop by a café before school. Virgil sketches out drawings of astronauts and space when Logan goes on a loving tirade about it that lasts, on-and-off, for a week.
He still definitely has a crush on Logan. His increased presence near him is both a blessing and a curse.

Summary
“I haven’t a clue why you are so stubborn about this,” Logan pouts, deliberately poking out his lower lip in a way that is both very cute and very tempting.
“Yes, you do have a clue, we’ve talked ‘bout this lots,” Virgil says—he knows that Logan’s elocution has rubbed off him on a little, so sometimes his Essex accent comes out stronger than he expects, sounding unlike Logan’s refined, boarding-school-taught Oxford one.
Logan slips his hands into his livery coat, wrapping his hands around Virgil’s waist. “Tell me again, then.”
“Are we really going to lose the morning arguing about why we should not be wed again,” Virgil begins, before he sighs. They absolutely are. “I’m your valet.”
“And what an excellent valet you are,” Logan says brightly.
For being the smartest person that Virgil knows, Logan can really be quite naive sometimes.

Summary
Virgil stares at him. He doesn’t say a word.
“I’ll admit this,” the blue-eyed man gestures between them, “rather put a cinch in my plan on how to deal with you.”
“Would you have killed me?” Virgil asks. His voice comes out a croak. “If we weren’t...”
He trails off.
The man’s eyebrow arches, before he shrugs, and rolls up his sleeve. His soulmark is in the same place as Virgil’s—stamped across his left inner arm, in the spiky handwriting Virgil only uses in his personal notes, not the more uniform one he writes reports with.
Did you just fucking poison me, you fucking asshole?!
Undeniably a matching soulmark to his.
