Qi Rong commits murder, Xie Lian has to get him away from the cops, and they find themselves at a commune in the middle of nowhere that's run by Xie Lian's ex. Also, there's this random girl hanging out with them because she has nowhere else to go.
Sometimes a family can be two communist dads, a murderer, and a random teen.
AKA I wrote an anarcho-communist MDZS fic and was like, what would TGCF be like if it was leftist? It turns out, basically the same as canon. Xie Lian is an abolitionist icon and we have to stan.
