In this month's edition of Xenoanthropology Today:
The Cake is a Lie - The Significance of Gastronomic Rituals in Groups of Nascently Sentient Emergency Holograms. A Case Study.
By K’xae’Rinn enK’tal of the Greater Anthropological Institute at the Ancient and Venerable Hhon-mak’tih University of Southern KendrisFrom the Abstract:
In this paper, I present the results of a month-long anthropological observation of a group of five sentient Emergency Holograms working on a privately owned commercial freighter. Their varied interactions with food and drink reveal a wide spectrum of cognition, ranging from purely pre-programmed Performance (as defined by O’Leary, 2385) to highly self-motivated attempts at Individuation (ibid.). By highlighting these often subtle differences, a clear picture emerges: The consumption of food and drink as well as the participation in gastronomic rituals is not only an effect of emerging sentience in Emergency Holograms, but can even serve as a tool of the same.A full bibliography can be found at the end of the work.
