Summary
He shrugged with the tediousness of the assignment, nothing to be done but suck it up and get on with it. Besides, he could definitely think of worse ways to spend a couple of days than on a job with his present company. Neji's lip quirked in time with the raising of a perfectly manicured eyebrow, sharing the wavelength, camaraderie in the face of their impending suffering.
'Next time you visit, Shikamaru, bring better news.'

Neji nodded as he reached to trail fingertips along Shikamaru's jaw, thumb brushing his bottom lip, expression heating as Shikamaru let out a slow breath.
'What do you say, Shikamaru? Do you want to see where this could go?'

Summary
These moments had been taking Neji equally off guard, this sense that they'd found something that was about to turn their entire world upside down, breathtaking and beautiful and yes, utterly terrifying. He ran his hand down Shikamaru's chest, offered up a tentative smile, a lifeline, if not to solid ground then at least to himself. They could be adrift together.
'I'm as out of my depth as you are, Shikamaru. Land slipped out of sight days ago…'
He trailed his fingers back up to the dip of Shikamaru's throat, out along his collarbone.
'...I feel like I'm changing course without a map.'

'You're awake.'
He brought their twined fingers to his mouth, brushed a kiss over Neji's knuckles.
'Mmm, yeah, just thinking.'
Lips ghosted up to his neck, a barely-awake trail of kisses that swirled warmth through his bloodstream, Neji's whole body snuggled close something he never imagined would feel so necessary in his bed. Not even three weeks, and he couldn't quite remember how he'd ever managed to sleep alone.

Summary
One month. Just a handful of weeks spent falling headlong into something that he and Neji both realised pretty damn fast was turning their world totally and utterly upside down, a complete deviation from the paths they’d both been on. The whole axis of his life had tilted, his true north shifting. It felt insane. It also felt like the sanest thing he’d ever done.

'Oh fuck, Neji yeah.'
He paused his fumble with the keys to grind their bodies together, cool night air licking over flushed skin, fever-heat chasing prickles in its wake.
'The door, Shikamaru.'

Summary
If anyone had told him that one day he'd be hidden away in a locked office of the Hokage tower on his knees for Neji Hyūga, listening to his name being moaned in a way that made his toes curl, the two of them so desperate for each other that they were being almost too stupid for words, he would have laughed. As far as fantasy fulfillment went, this was pretty fucking phenomenal.

Summary
Kankurō waltzed into the room with timing so precise that he suspected it had been orchestrated, dumping his bag on the floor and pulling up a chair by Temari's side as he eyed them both.
'What's the stand-off about?'
His dramatic sigh was drowned out by Temari's equally dramatic huff. He almost broke to laugh, schooled his expression as he watched her lips quirk with the same fight.
'We're all going out tonight and Shikamaru's just taking a while to get with the program.'
Neji smirked. For fuck sake.
'Excellent. Come on Shikamaru, a dark club, loud music, more booze than you can shake a gourd at. Don't fight it.'
Naruto was almost vibrating behind him. He kinda wanted to smack Kankurō in his stupid, grinning face. He also kinda wanted to go dancing. Okay, really wanted to go dancing, the more he contemplated it. Ugh. The stare Temari was giving him was far too knowing and he felt himself folding like a bad poker hand. Gods he really hadn't lasted long this time.
'Guess we're going out then.'

Summary
Neji didn’t stop him this time as he gathered up the teapot and swept them out of the kitchen, watched with an undoubtedly soft gaze as Shikamaru settled down into a nest of pillows and books spread in front of the crackling fire and glanced up to meet his eyes with a lip between his teeth. Sometimes he was struck by the memory that there had been a time when he hadn’t put much stock in the notion of love. What a ridiculous, unimaginable thought that was now.

Summary
'I want to credit the cider to Ino along with the music, but this one was all Choji.'
Tenten laughed and he couldn't help but grin back at her, the mood too light for his sassing to land as anything but loving humour.
'I assumed the music was you honestly, I've heard about Suna, apparently the boy can shake his ass.'
He almost spat his mouthful as he choked around a laugh when she shimmied at him. He met her grin with his own as he recovered.
'Some rumours have gotta be true I guess. But the bigger surprise surely has to be Neji, were you aware he could dance? Fucking beautifully I might add.'
'It's a closely guarded Team Gai secret actually. He's always been an elegant motherfucker, leggy, and all that hair right? Like a model from a shampoo commercial or something. Drunk teenage Neji dancing like no one was watching was a revelation.'
If only he'd known. His adult self had barely been able to handle it, Teenage Shikamaru would have had a coronary.
