Summary
“None of this is right,” he breathes. His fingers curl inward, nails barely grazing Donghyuck’s neck. He doesn’t miss Donghyuck’s sharp intake of breath. “I want what I cannot have.”
Donghyuck takes a step closer. “You’re royalty, your highness. There is nothing you cannot have.”

Summary
“That’s absurd.” Donghyuck’s voice is soft as feathers. He turns his eyes toward the ceiling. “Have you ever seen anything more beautiful than this?”
Mark is sure that he has. Donghyuck, with the high collar of his uniform contrasting against his pretty skin and starlight shining in his eyes – he’s infinitely more breathtaking.

Summary
“I’m going to fix it,” Mark breathes. He reaches up and tears the heavy silver crown from his hair. He balances it on both palms, as if it’s a venomous insect intent on striking. “I’ll rebuild the Empire with my own hands if I must. But not like this.” He lets the crown drop. It falls through open air, down and down and down—
His back is turned by the time it strikes the floor.

Summary
“If this is the last night we have together,” Donghyuck finally breathes, voice teetering on the edge of something unthinkable, “I’m going to ensure you remember it.” He tugs Mark forward again until their lips are mere centimeters apart. “You’re not allowed to forget me, your highness.”
Mark blinks back the tears that have risen, sudden and hot, to his lashes. “I’ll never forget you, darling. In this life or the next.” His mouth goes dry—cotton and sandpaper and ashes. “And that is a promise.”
