It was near three in the morning and Dan had brought a woman back to their tent.
The auditory experience of kissing was never particularly pleasant, but listening to Dan was - still not pleasant, but compelling. Herbert realized without surprise that his whole body felt flushed as he imagined where, how, Dan might be putting his mouth on her. He thought if it were him Dan was kissing, back pressed into some dingy mattress, he'd want him to worry at the skin of his neck, maybe even bite there. He thought he wouldn't mind if Dan hurt him, just a little.
