Summary
Stede knew he was fortunate. Fortunate to have a body that worked. Well, for the most part.
Once in a while, he would get hit by migraines. Dreadful things they are. There’s a petulant little voice in his head, telling him he deserves it.
Being fortunate must come at the expense of something.

Summary
Stede wasn't sure what was real and what wasn't. He didn't know how long it had been since he last slept, but it had been far, far longer than he would have liked. His brain felt like it was full of cotton wool, his limbs were so heavy that even without the ropes that bound him to the chair he wouldn't be able to move.

Summary
Soulmarks are an interesting phenomenon that scientists are still researching, without a satisfactory answer regarding their origin. The basics were well understood - at puberty, black mark appears on a person’s body that indicates where the first touch from their “soulmate” would take place. Soulmate was colloquial, but research indicated that the connection between two (or more) people indicated by this mark was an exceptionally strong compatibility emotionally and physically.
---Stede is approaching 50 and he has still not met his soulmate. A traumatic event outside Jackie's changes his life.

Summary
“Is this about my birthday?”
Stede blinks at him.
“I don’t care about my fucking birthday, Stede, I care about you.”
Stede makes a face which he not-so-quickly smooths over, reflexes dulled by his cold. Ed doesn’t even want to start with the fucking face. “I care about you too. So, I’m going to… go do some stuff. I have calls to make.”
And he gets up and walks into the office and shuts the door behind him. Ed hears the click of the lock.
Ed settles in for the longest fight of their entire relationship thus far.

Summary
“You help me all the time, y’know,” Ed said. “Would love to do the same for you.”
Well, that was…
Hm.
That was true, wasn’t it. He did offer his hand to Ed—always without a lick of judgement. He dried his tears, rocked away the anxiety, and held him close, not questioning any of it for even a moment. It was just something that came naturally to him. It was because he loved him, and cared about him, and wanted him to feel better.
…But was he really deserving of such patience?
A routine trip to the market goes horrendously awry for Stede, awakening all sorts of dormant hurt. Thankfully, there's someone in his life who understands, and who loves him even when his brain tries to scream otherwise.

Six months into being innkeepers/retiring, everything is super duper great. Ed's worked through a lot of his lingering issues, and Stede? Well, what issues could he have to work through? He's never suffered in his life. Not compared to Ed. Not compared to anyone. He's a spoiled little rich boy. So he has nothing to cry over or work through.

Summary
Crying on the floor of his office is not how Stede envisioned spending his 40th birthday.
He’d been dreading the meeting with his father that morning, but only because he always dreaded Friday morning meetings with his father. He had most definitely not been anticipating quitting his job in front of the entire board.

Summary
Contrary to popular belief, Stede Bonnet can’t read. He has spent the better part of forty years playing pretend. He styles himself as a scholar, but never cracks open a book except to read the crew a good-night story, most of which he tells from memory. Things had gone so smoothly, Stede practically forgot his worries.
Then Blackbeard came into his life, and that delicate inner peace shattered like china on a hardwood floor.
---
A measured response to the folks who think Ed Teach can't read and needs Stede Bonnet to rescue him from illiteracy.

Summary
Ed should have known the raid was going too smoothly, especially after so much time on land. Even a few months had been enough for him to feel rusty, and Izzy was still recovering from his time in the gravy basket. But they were making short work of this crew, and he was feeling the pleasant burn in his muscles and the adrenaline of the fight, so he didn’t think twice.
And then the captain got his sword into Stede.
On the right.
On the fucking right.

It wasn’t the first time Stede had noticed it. It happened with Chauncey and the British firing squad, it happened with the surprise attack from Ned Low. Stede didn’t realise it was going to become a habit though.

Summary
Stede’s walking behind him, feet dragging as he follows in Ed’s steps. Ditzy, he's grateful for the path. Ed takes a look around them. Coast is clear.
“ ‘Kay, love.” Ed calls to Stede. “You’re good.”
A sad, sleepy sort of smile graces Stede’s sickly face as he looks down, removing the blindfold from Badminton’s eyes.
The man starts up, panic present under his false confident ramble of “ —Oh, oh, oh… Baby Bonnet’s trying to scare me, is he? Little Baby Bonet growling like a zombie to get me off his back. How ridiculous? You’re not…” He looks at Stede more carefully, his deep eyebags and slack jaw. “Oh, but you could never hurt a fly.”
"It's Teach, now," Ed spits, before he turns to Stede. “Get him.” Ed instructs, and Nigel eats his own words as Stede takes a generous bite of his shoulder.
