Everything is dark. The vat is not that deep, and Katsuki manages to clamp his mouth and eyes shut before he accidentally swallows some of the stuff or it gets in his eyes. But he claws and twists, trying to move his body and get the fuck out of this sticky mess even as the heavy gauntlets on his wrists make it difficult. The thick liquid coats every inch of him, making it impossible to move and get his head above the surface, but he’s making some progress at getting himself out. And then…
And then he’s suddenly somewhere else, his limbs locking up and his mind racing as memories from a different time make it impossible to move. Memories of an entirely different day, a day when he was fifteen years old and his whole body was trapped in sludge as he struggled desperately to get free.
