Summary
Every time Miles looked into the mirror, he saw a pair of blue and gray eyes staring back at him. He had always believed having two eye colors was unchangeable, that having two eye colors was a normal phenomenon that impacted everyone. He'd always ask his father why it was that way, but each time he did, his father would give him a half hearted explanation about 'soul mates', saying that when you meet your soul mates' eyes, their eyes will turn into the same color as your natural eye color. Miles never believed in his father's words, believing that it was a ploy to preserve his childish beliefs about the world.
But when Miles learns the exact same thing in his 4th grade science class, he begins to feel the prickling sensation of disappointment because no matter how much he stared, Phoenix's eyes would always remain blue-gray.
