Welcome to the Kagehina Exchange 2024, a fic and art exchange dedicated to Kagehina!! Below you will find the guidelines, rules and FAQ's for this event. Please read them thoroughly and if you have any extra questions please contact the event mods through our Twitter DMs!

Guidelines:

1. The Kagehina Exchange is run through a gift exchange collection on Ao3. As such, an Ao3 account is needed to participate. Please message the Twitter account if you need an invitation!
2. Participants sign up. This is not an application-based event; everyone who signs up gets to participate. In their sign-up, each person makes both a request and an offer.
   1. The REQUEST includes three prompts for what you would like to receive, as well as your preferred tags and ratings. If you would like to receive either fic or art, make sure you give at least one prompt suitable for each medium.
   2. The OFFER includes all the tags for which you are willing to create as well as a short description of things you don’t want to be matched with.
3. Everyone is assigned one giftee (a person they are creating for) and one gifter (the person who is creating for them). You will have 8 weeks from the time of matches to the due date to create a gift based on the prompts you received from your giftee.
4. Participants will submit their work through Ao3 by the due date, May 4. Your work will be unrevealed and anonymous. Starting on the posting date, works will be gradually revealed while the creators remain anonymous.
5. After all the works have been shared, the creators of the gifts will be revealed! Until the reveal, the identities of the creators must remain secret. Don’t tell anyone which work you created!

Can I request both fanfic and fanart?

Yes, you can! In your Ao3 signup, choose the tag that fits best: Art or Writing. If you have a preference for one or the other, select only that tag. If you’d like to receive either, select both!

Note: If you request both options, please make sure you have prompts that would suit both mediums. The best way to do this is to have three writing prompts and three art prompts!

Can I make more than one offer?

For this exchange, we are limiting signups to one request and one offer. If you are willing to offer both art and writing, select both tags in your offer!

Can I make more than one gift?

Yes! After matchups are finalized and assignments are released, we will reveal everyone’s requests. During the creation period, you can make as many gifts as you’d like and offer the additional gifts as treats. Make sure you prioritize the gift for your assigned giftee, though!

Are explicit fics/art allowed?

Explicit gifts are allowed only if you are 18 . If you are 18 and would like to offer or receive an explicit gift, you must choose the correct rating tags (E and M) and state in your request that you are 18 .

If you are under 18, you cannot choose E or M rating tags in either your offer or your request. You must also state in your request that you are 18-.

If you are 18 and you don’t want to receive or offer explicit works, please do not select the E or M rating tags in your offer or request. You do not have to request and offer the same ratings! You must still state in your request that you are 18 .

Because requests will be revealed for optional treats, please mark explicit prompts with “Content Warning: NSFW” so that minors and those uncomfortable with NSFW content can skip over them.

How do treats work?

Once requests are revealed, you can check the “Requests Summary” tab under the challenge collection to browse through the prompts. If you find one you like, write for it! You’ll manually add both the recipient’s name in the “Gift this work to:” section of Ao3 and the fic to the collection. A guide will be released closer to posting!

I missed sign-ups. Can I still join?

You are welcome to join our Discord server! Beta sign-ups will be open until the first check-in, and pinch hitter sign-ups will be open until the second check-in. Please sign up if you’re willing to fill in in the case one of the participants drops!

You are also more than welcome to create a treat! Please see the previous section on treats.

I turn 16 a week after sign-ups close. Can I still join?

Unfortunately, you must be 16 by the time sign-ups close to participate in the event. You are welcome to sign up as a beta or pinch-hitter after you turn 16, or you can create a treat once prompts are revealed!

Is there any content that isn’t allowed?

There are no content restrictions for this event beyond that fact minors cannot create or request NSFW content. Please listen to your giftee’s requests, including their tags, ratings, and Do Not Wants. If you are unsure of what you can request, please DM a mod and we can address your specific situation.

General Event Rules:

1. You must be 16 in order to participate and 18 to create or receive NSFW content. All NSFW content must be tagged appropriately and consumed only by others who are 18 or older. Any NSFW content posted to the event Twitter will be hidden behind a link or Twitter’s image censor tool. Any NSFW content posted in the event Discord will be restricted to the 18 channels. Misrepresentation of age to access, receive, or create NSFW content will result in a permanent ban from future Kagehina Exchanges, regardless of age going forward.
2. By entering this event, you agree to create at least one piece of full-color art or one 2k work of fanfiction, featuring Kagehina, based on the prompts and preferences of your assignment.
   1. This year, we are implementing a maximum word count limit of 30k, with a grace limit of 5k. If your work is longer than 35k, it will be one of the last works posted.
   2. The mods will not swap assignments if the request you receive matches your offer. You may create something you've never done before- that's part of what makes an exchange, an exchange! Make sure your offer is correct before submitting.
3. There are no content restrictions for this exchange, but due to the nature of the event, your gifter may not feel comfortable creating for your specific 'dark'/'problematic' (Dead Dove) prompts, even if their offer indicates they are open to working with such material.
   1. If you would like to request DD prompts, you must do so in addition to three non-DD prompts. The mods will do their best to match you with a gifter who will write your DD prompts, but it cannot be guaranteed.
   2. You must be 18 or older to request 'dark' or 'problematic' content.
   3. The mods can facilitate anonymous communication between the gifter and giftee to clear any doubts or questions regarding the prompts/gift.
4. Explicit gifts are allowed only if you are 18 . If you are 18 and would like to offer or receive an explicit gift, you must choose the correct rating tags (E and M) and state in your request and the Google Form that you are 18 .
   1. If you are under 18, you cannot choose E or M rating tags in either your offer or your request. You must also state you are 18- in your request and the Google Form.
   2. If you are 18 and you don’t want to receive or offer explicit works, please still state that you are 18 in your request and do not select the E or M rating tags in your offer or request. You do not have to request and offer the same ratings!
   3. Because requests will be revealed for optional treats, please mark explicit prompts with “Content Warning: NSFW” so that minors and those uncomfortable with NSFW content can skip over them.
5. By entering this event, you agree to be a friendly and supportive participant. This is a community event, so we encourage you to look through all the works and not just the one(s) gifted to you. Please engage as much as possible with other creations.
6. You are REQUIRED to acknowledge your gift before the collection closes (two weeks after the creator reveals). This can be an Ao3 comment, a tweet, or a DM, and will be confirmed in an exit survey. Interactions with the event account graphics do not count. If your gifter reports that they never heard from you, you will not be allowed to participate in the Kagehina Exchange next year.
7. This is a Kagehina event, but ship-bashing will not be tolerated. We want to facilitate an event that is enjoyable for all those who wish to participate, regardless of ship preferences. If you’re unsure whether including a secondary ship in your work is allowed or in line with the giftee’s preferences, refer to Point (3).
8. This event will contain a wide variety of works which may contain manga spoilers. If you’d like to avoid those, beware the tags and include that information in your sign-up form so all the mods, as well as your gifter, are aware of it.
