She suddenly felt the hairs on the back of her neck prickle and glanced sharply behind her. The walls stood tall and foreboding as she swept her gaze from side to side, trying to pinpoint the cause of her discomfort. The flickering of bodies at the window of the watchtower gave her the answer.
'Ninjas' thought Ayumi grimly. Refusing to be spooked any further by the shadow guardians of the village, Ayumi adjusted the straps of her bag more firmly on her shoulder and marched straight on.
'It’s all going to work out. I’m going to have a good life. I’m going to enjoy my new home' Ayumi recited once more just for good measure.
